The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

I thought all the lefty types were happy Musk was forced into to buying it, what happened to make them go a bit crazy?

I think you are confusing happy with funny. Of course it was amusing that through his own arrogance he ended up having to buy it when he'd changed his mind and for an over inflated cost. And its got nothing to do with "lefty" as you put it. I don't think Twitter should be in the hands of 1 person and certainly not someone like Musk. There is more oversight when its a publicly traded company for starters.

All Twitter as to do is only enforce the law.
The law varies country to country and twitter is a global entity so it needs no be much more nuanced than that if it wants to keep the conversation global. It also has to be incredibly sensitive around the companies that advertise on the platform as after all it is they who pay the bills for keeping the service running. Most companies don’t want their brand names appearing alongside content that they feel damages their brand. It is not a simple equation and neither is an unmoderated community necessarily a good thing! This very forum has regularly throughout my time been accused of being overly moderated but for me the moderation keeps the forum readable, engaging and not just an endless slanging match! Twitter unmoderated would be a horrible horrible place!

Yup

And as I've seen it put the advertising spend on Twitter by most of the big companies is basically so small it wouldn't be noticed by Ford/GM let along Proctor & Gamble if they stopped it, and the reach is relatively small so it wouldn't affect their "positive" advertising much to stop it. On the other hand those companies really don't want anything of theirs along side the likes of thousands of MAGA/4channers posting racial slurs and calling death threats, and Twitter absolutely does need that advertising to pay it's bill.

Apparently GAB and truth social etc are basically filled with the absolute dross of penny adverts for things like miracle cancer cures (at least until the FDA becomes aware of them and goes after them), gold sales and doomsday supplies (freeze dried food, spare sprigs for your AR15 etc).

Hasn't he?

The trans thread on here was shut down after being called out on twitter.

Just trying to figure out why people on Twitter have this unique power to get things cancelled, do you just need a Rainbow flag in your bio and blue hair and immediately any company will bow down to your will?

Got nothing to do with Twitter really as it's all quickly accessible social media which companies can't just ignore like with individual complaints that go through ridiculous internal processes.

A single link that disparages your product/decision/statement that can be shared to your entire potential market terrifies corporates who thought they could skimp on PR/customer support.

I think it would be best for Twitter to be more transparent when it comes to reporting posts. They should create an easier process for people looking to bring criminal or civil cases to have faster access to the data they need.

Free speech means you can type most things. But you should be held legally responsible for whatever you post.

Being held "legally responsible" simply for typing or saying words isn't free speech, why do you think it is?
