The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

It is interesting, as I've seen stats that show the worst performing states, something like the bottom 10, are all republican run.

Whether you look at per-person, household, or family income, nine out of the ten poorest states voted Republican in the last four presidential elections.

(Source).

Additionally, 8 out of the 10 worst performing state economies are Republican (source).

I know its anecdotal, but I have come across far more foreigners than I'd expect, that vote for conservatives and brexit.

Once they get money, in my experience, people tend to just want to hold onto it and forget the struggles others go through. 1st gen Foreigners that are now settled, voting to stop foreigners is just something I don't understand.

I'm sure there is a difference, but it feels like to me, imagine gays now that they can get married, saying lesbians shouldn't be allowed because what's next, dogs marrying a man etc.

Like it or not this is a conservative country. Things are very slow to change here, Yes we have an NHS that could be described as socialist but that is almost an outlier, bought in at a time when something had to be done but the Conservatives and even the medical establishment fought it all the way.

New immigrants voting against other people being allowed to immigrate isn't something new. People don't like to share what they have. You get it in the US along the southern border where Latinos vote for Republicans even if they are first or second generation immigrants on the basis of their immigration stance.

I knew a gay couple years ago when the Church of England started to allow gay men to become bishops, these 2 guys owned an advertising agency, were wealthy, I thought liberal though were quire religious but they left the Church of England and joined the Catholic Church because they didn't agree with gay men being clergy. I couldn't get my head around that but then I can't get my head around religion full stop.

I think people realise how ineffective and wasteful government actually is as they get older, they see how **** Politicians are, which is a large part of why people become Conservative. It isn't that they don't want to help others, it's that the mechanisms used to help others are so poorly implemented by people who are ineffective and useless at their jobs. That's why people prefer lower taxes and smaller government, not that they think all poor people are scroungers who need to pick themselves up by their bootstraps.

So people start to realise how 'ineffective and wasteful government actually is as they get older' and then vote for the most ineffective and wasteful government ever? It actually is that they dont want to help others. Its in just about every post and topic they talk about from minimum wage to workers rights, to immigration to small state. All about not helping others.

Humans are just weird full stop. Primitive monkey brain will primitive monkey brain.

Well, some parents give their children lots of pocket money and bars of chocolate, other parents teach their children to get a job and how valuable hard work and discipline is. You'd probably think the latter parents "don't care" about their kids. That's basically the same attitude towards government, you would be the former in that example. I don't think people who are like you are "bad" though, you're just a bit soft. The absolute worst thing for any group/business/society/team is to have weak people in charge, they'll start out with something good and wreck it due to apathy and inaction.

I was given lots of pocket money and chocolate bars, and was subtly encouraged to follow whatever path in life I wanted, without any particular pressure from my parents.

Given that the above factors are your predictors for being "soft", how do you explain my successful businesses and my 17 inch lean biceps? (because I know how important you find the size of people's arms)

Honestly, you're a parody of yourself sometimes.

Good job but I think you've missed the point I was making, it was analogous to how we run government, not a direct example of how I expect every kid to turn out based on their parenting. Most of my family are overweight and I lift 5 days a week, not particularly because I care about the size of my arms either which was a tongue in cheek comment.

I understand the point that you were trying to make; which is one that wouldn't necessarily be bad, were it not for the fact that you appear to have such an incredibly narrow view of what constitutes strength.

Creativity is a strength, diversity is a strength, everything is a strength in the right circumstances.

And as you're being analogous specifically to governance; a societal safety net is a strength, a society that looks after it's vulnerable is a strength, a society that aims to maximise the wellbeing of it's citizens as a whole, is absolutely a strength for so many reasons.

Does anyone know if Matt Taibbi has published a news story on the 'Twitter Files' at an outlet? Or was it only on Twitter?

Interesting journalist for Musk to (allegedly; not sure if it's been 100% confirmed he gave them to Taibbi) use though.

This is nothing to do with Elon Musk, this is junk for you to discuss in Speaker's Corner...
As Musk owns Twitter and (allegedly) gave the 'Twitter Files' to Taibbi, i would say it has everything to do with him. And this thread has been derailed in to every other aspect of Musk's life so, it's perfectly apt for here i would say.

...with people who give a ****.
You seem to give a **** Roar, that's why you're white-knighting like you've been promised a horse.

I don't think anyone disagrees with a safety net, that isn't my argument or a concept I disagree with. Clearly it's a spectrum though.

I feel defensive because this is a guy who's intended goal is to send Humans to Mars;

Is it? He seems to be spending most days recently being a childish right wing troll and spreading conspiracy theories on Twitter.

Somehow I am not sure he is very focused on furthering the species right now.

He seems more interested in peddling nonsense and manipulating Dogecoin.

Well, despite him posting on Twitter, SpaceX is still a very real thing. You do realise that there's nothing illegal about manipulating an online currency? Anyone with half a brain would do that.
