The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

That is an interesting one.

I am all for keeping governments and so on out of the internet, but for technical reasons. The current level of traffic capacity, storage and compute wasted on this social tittle-tattle just goes to show how off track things are at the moment.

I think there is a good case for proving who you are and an internet “licence”. The “right to anonymity” never existed before and on balance (from what I see) does more harm than good. When did you last see a good news story about internet anonymity being a positive outside of it being used to foil malfeasance which itself hides behind anonymity?

I’ve not concreted my position yet but the basics are there.

To confirm, this is not intended to be some authoritarian tracking system, but make people unable to hide behind a mask and hopefully people wouldn’t post the bile if they knew their friends, family etc could see it.

Perhaps there could be a rule that when a site gets so big with active users it needs to use a Real ID system, or at least implement it as an option for people who want it.

I think having a general approach will 1. fail, because of the nature of the internet it wouldn't be enforcable, and 2. sadly, as we've seen in other areas of business if we give them half a chance they go full authoritarian on us.

That might be an idea. They could do it in stages so 50,000 users needs to upload ID to approve their account. Maybe another some sort of a badge could be put against their name like a red shield or something to say “authenticated by uploaded ID”. Or at least for the person who has total control of that account. Name and DOB must match ID within 30 days or the account will be temporary suspended and deactivated until ID is approved.

Why

Even if Tesla get a replacement CEO I think the damage is done now, the "magic factor" is gone.

Saw a review for a Chevy bolt EV on sale in the US starting at $32k, at least 200 mile range. Other manufacturers are catching up and the vast majority of the market do not want/can not afford to drop $50k+ on a Model 3.

Full self driving is a way off. Even when the AI problem is solved (which I'l admit there's been great progress on) it will be a regulatory nightmare. Can't imagine car insurers being excited about adding it to policies at the beginning without a huge premium, if at all. Given time this may change, but it'll be a generational thing. Not a 1-2 yr quick fix.

I honestly think it will keep falling unless some radical new product is brought to market, be it the affordable EV, an AI robot humanoid etc. The former is a near term possibility, the latter will still be a while off.

the "magic factor" is gone

This is the problem. Even if Elon decides to announce some super duper amazing new thing from tesla, the magic is gone. He's losing it every day that he continues his twitter antics, doing a way worse job than I could ever have imagined.

The issue tesla now faces going forward, Elon doesn't have the answer to that a new CEO won't also have, however Elon is one of the current issues tesla faces as currently tesla = Elon which he also = twitter, so tesla is now indirectly being affected by twitter.

There couldn't be a better time for tesla to give Elon the push. There will be plenty that want Elon gone. When the shares drop below 100 and keep going, it'll possibly be BBC news worthy.

And what can they do to turn it around? Twitter has and will over shadow anything tesla want to do for the time being.

Still falling. Maybe the market is realising there is no way Tesla is worth more than the next several largest car makers added together.

It was $400 a share a year ago.

I read this morning that Tesla are right down there in terms of customer satisfaction.

Those of us who doubt the longevity of the company now the big boys are entering the electric market may have a point.

Doubt it really matters that Musk is involved or not as the biggest problem for Tesla was always that it would become a boring product after being pushed into your face constantly as the best thing ever, it was and is a product designed for millennials which is why it's inherently doomed. Kind of hard to flash something about when everyone knows customer service as well as the the quality isn't worth the asking price and it's growing a douchefactor which I'm sure will maintain a level of sales but there's already plenty of BMW's for those guys.

I think the point may be that Musk is a polarising figure and is hilariously over powered in some areas and under powered in others. In the my okay RGP I am developing (MUSK DOWNFALL:BETTER NATE THAN EVA) [thank you], he becomes president of the world but then can't get to his world premiership meeting as his car, which doesn't work, has run out of electricity, and then the millenials rise up against what they think is genius but he's just a rube and the finale is everyone howling into the abyss.

I would watch this movie.

e: noobs.

e2: it is called BOOMERGEDDON (early access, hit me up if you have deep pocketws and even deeper cavities)
