The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

Infamous neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes got his Twitter account reinstated on Tuesday, only to see it banned again a mere day later.

Reuters reports that Fuentes' account got shut down on Wednesday after he used it to make multiple anti-Semitic remarks of the kind that got him suspended under Twitter's previous ownership, although it was not immediately clear which tweet led to his latest ban from the platform.

He has since taken to his Telegram channel and asked his supporters to petition Twitter CEO Elon Musk to let him back on.

Musk has shown a high tolerance for hate speech on Twitter, as he has reinstated the accounts of notorious racists such as Daily Stormer founder Andrew Anglin, although he did draw a line late last year with rapper Kanye West after he used the platform to attack Jews and promote Nazis.

Everytime I see this image when I pop into this thread, my brain seems to misinterpret this as a photo of someone crapping down a chimney.

I am certain that the person at the BBC that selected that image, knew exactly what they were doing when they picked it and how it'd look.

He just says 'No' to anything he doesn't like to see in the news. You rarely see him actually disproving a story.
Sure, but if he had to reply to every false story, he'd never stop replying. No is short and straight to the point.

But it's not at all clear that these are false stories. He just says 'Not true' and moves on without proving it.

This is like his approach to fixing problems with Twitter. Someone says 'This is broken', Musk says, 'Looking into it', and nothing happens while Musk hopes everyone will eventually forget.

RE: The Nick Fuentes thing above (and all the other times this has happened)

Did Elon think that giving awful scumbags their Twitter back would magically make them good, decent people that would abide by the platform's rules?

Honestly, i have no comprehension of the thought process that goes on his head behind these decision.

Is it - "I'm the boss now so I will give this person with a proven track record of being a reprehensible human one more chance under my watch" ? If so, what sort of god complex does he have that makes him think that him being in charge of Twitter will make them behave differently?

I think it was twofold, initially to create more hype and potentially generate more users, and secondly his ill thought out and unconvincing that many were political bans

Hasnt he just decided he is jewish-ish? After he unbanned all the people that got kicked off for being antisemitic.

BBC News - 'Elon Musk has made me embarrassed to drive my Tesla now'

Whoops. Not good for tesla.
I've been leasing electric cars for 6 years now and will be getting my 4th this autumn. I'm deliberately avoiding Teslas, even though they are pretty good. I wasn't much of an Elon fanboy to start with, but I'm glad other makers are coming online with some decent electric cars now, so it isn't the compromise it might have been in the past.

Is the avoidance partly because of Elon's latest behaviour or just because you don't fancy teslas any more?

This is an issue I've said from day one and why it's a mistake for Elon to take twitter. He should have focused on what he's best at and left social sites to someone else.

Tesla = elon
Twitter used to = no one
Now twitter = elon
And so tesla = twitter,

And what has Elon done lately? Returned right wing nut jobs. Shown support for Pelosi conspiracy theory rubbish. Tried to tell people how to vote for stupid reasons. Begged trump to come back with memes. Enboldended right wing users to think that they can be more abusive. The list goes on.

Twitter wasn't just a 44 billion dollar mistake for Elon. It will possibly be hundreds of billion dollars worth of a mistake for Elon, especially if tesla kick him once the true damage to tesla brand is known, and he's left with nothing but failing twitter.

But at least nutjob#87 thinks twitter runs smoother (an issue they've never had 1 year ago mind)

It's mostly his behaviour and outspoken views that i disagree with that have pushed me away from teslas. It's the reason i didn't get a tesla on the last lease when my business partner did, and i am even more put off since that time. I'm glad there will be more to choose from this summer. I've driven a model 3 a few times, they are pretty good, but the main selling point for me is the charging network.

I like this tweet from Elon

Says the man always going on about bots and conspiracy theories/"psyops".

Elon Musk had a point, many would not agree especially if the manipulation aligned with their own bias.

we found that bots were 1% of the active users, but posted 31% of the tweets

we found that although the bots were only 1% of the active users, they were followed by over 24% of the active users. This massive reach combined with their elevated activity levels allows bots to conduct large-scale opinion manipulation.

BBC News - 'Elon Musk has made me embarrassed to drive my Tesla now'

Whoops. Not good for tesla.

Imagine caring so much about who owns the damn company who makes your car to be embarrassed when you drive it.

Society today is absolutely baffling.

  • Volkswagen.
  • Fiat Chrysler.
  • Jeep.
  • Opel (General Motors)
  • Nissan.
  • Renault.
  • Mercedes-Benz.
  • Audi & Porsche.
These companies all fiddled their emissions for years causing huge damage to the environment and lying to their customers. There are massive multinational companies that own hundreds of brands that kill, main, destroy communities and ruin entire areas of countries in the name of profit. I wonder how much this lady is embarrassed when she buys their products?

Its this strange modern idea that the quality of person you are is defined by the outward objects you display and by the words you parrot rather than the actual actions you take and whether you are fundamentally a nice and good person. We applaud companies who post woke crap on twitter that they couldn't give less of a damn about whilst vilifying individuals who have the audacity not to give the right opinion on an issue.

Musk is a pillock but god damn you need to give your head a wobble if driving a tesla embarrasses you. If I had one and someone said, "you know Elon Musk is a bit of a knob right", I would say "yes...and". Its a car.
