Not the narrative you are attempting to paint dowie. A false equivalence of Trump's Big Lie and Jan 6th to BLM. The only thing they have in common is they happened in the US.

I don’t think there were many rational people who believed Trump would actually stay in power.

Some of his die-hard supporters like the Oathkeepers must have done, otherwise they wouldn’t have organised the “operation”. And there were no doubt some on the Left concerned that he might pull it off somehow.

But that’s not really the point.

Most peoples’ outrage isn’t at the Fisher-Price coup-attempt, it’s that things were allowed to get to that stage in the first place. Months of a sitting President undermining the democratic process and then calling the legitimate result a steal when it didn’t go his way — that’s not a partisan hot-take, that’s the reality.

Thank God Trump was as incompetent at coups as he was with everything else.

I can’t speak for AOC, she may well have added some hyperbole for dramatic effect, but it’s easy to judge with the benefit of hindsight. An angry mob did break into the building, they were getting closer to the politicians (until one of them got shot) and who was to know how the mob would have behaved if they’d actually caught any of them.

Playing devils advocate, and I fully agree it's shameful that it was allowed to get to this step, does this tit for tat bs not begin with the media onslaught that trump only won because of Russian help

Does it ever end. Can it end in an increasingly polarised environment.
Is t this the whole point of Twitter being neutral and not being another political body pretending to not have skin in the game.

I get your point, but there’s a key difference. There actually was Russian interference in the 2016 election. The media may have overblown the impact it had on the result (it’s hard to say without some accurate polling data that I don’t have time to research) but it was at least based in reality, unlike “Stop the Steal”.

It’s a difficult one for sure. Twitter (and Social Media in general) only amplifies the polarisation. So I get the argument that it should be neutral, but all it’s going to achieve is more fake-news, more echo chambers, and probably more violence (from both sides).

As soon as the SEC started looking into his tardiness he probably wanted out and that seems like an excuse, very weak one at that considering he has spoken about bots and fake accounts in the past, to do just that.

Does make you wonder if this was a scheme from the start....

Not just based on reality, it was based on something that trump himself agreed with publicly. He said he believes Russia interfered to get him elected
