The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

I honestly cannot understand how there is any way the genius that is musk has ended up owning a business with a negative cash flow and heavy debt load, after all he knew exactly what he was doing when he paid twice it's value, and put it in a position where it's losses tripped overnight just from the interest.
I mean we keep getting told he had a plan.

His plan was to fire most of the staff and make everyone pay a subscription to use Twitter, then he fired the staff and users said **** off I ain't paying for **** and Elmo Musk realised he had ****** up

It absolutely boggles my mind - making Twitter more successful than it was and making more money isn't rocket science, in fact I'm always amazed how poorly it utilised its potential for ad revenue and/or income from business use without having to turn the site into something annoyingly ad dominated and/or turning away businesses with charges.

The first thing Elon needs to have done is sit down with some people and understand how people are using Twitter and how to improve the experience and tools for them.

Man, every time I read a Roar post about Elon or Twitter it reminds me of the old Something Awful thread routine:

Roar: "Help! HELP! I'm stuck in a well!!!"

GD'ers 1-4: "Climb! Climb up and take our hands!"

Roar: "I'm thinking I should dig... should I dig?"

GD'er 5: "NO! I was trapped in a well, and digging is a bad idea! Climb out!"

GD'ers 6-8: "We're lowering ropes! Take hold of a rope!"

GD'er 9: "I've even tied a harness to the end of this one!"

Roar: "I can feel the ropes, but I don't want to hold onto them... should I dig?"

GD'er 10: "No! If you dig, you'll hit water, and then you'll be proper hosed. I should know, I almost drowned."

Roar: "I dug a little bit just now, and I haven't hit water. I'm gonna keep digging..."

GD'ers 11-18: "No! Climb! Climb out!"

Roar: "Guys, I'm seriously stuck in this well! Help! HELP!!!"

GD'er 19: "I was trapped in a well once. It took me two years, but I managed to build a climbing machine that pulled me to safety out of a well bucket and a pocket watch. I'm dropping the blueprints, extra buckets, and an assortment of pocket watches."

GD'er 20: "I've engineered a jet-pack that will rocket you to safety. Stay where you are and we'll lower it down!""

Roar: "Thanks for your help, guys. I'm gonna keep digging. I'll find the Mines of Moria and I'll just walk to the surface."

**GD'ers 1-20 pee in the well**

GD'er 21: "Guys, seriously... stop peeing in the well.""

A few thoughts for our resident Simps this morning, the BBC are going after Twitter reporting the news.

"Rival app Threads now has 150 million users, according to some estimates."

Thought it was going down?

"After laying off thousands of employees and cutting cloud service bills, Mr Musk said Twitter was on track to post $3bn (£2.29bn) in revenue in 2023, down from $5.1bn in 2021.
The development is the latest sign the aggressive cost-cutting measures have not been enough to ignite a return of advertisers who fled after changes to its content moderation rules."

I thought this was supposed to be some 1000IQ strategy.

"That is despite an interview Mr Musk gave to the BBC in April, in which he suggested that most had returned to the site."

Interesting ;)

Typical Musk lies.

BBC news had seemed instigated by his one negative revenue tweet this weekend ,
and regurgitation of contents from earlier , unattributed by bbc, NY times article on advertising revenue

(they maybe need to get their verify organization to investigate themselves)

oh cool, i assume you wont have any issue showing me the source then
I'm just going to hazard a guess, but IIRC the Google play store and presumably the Apple app store show downloads for apps..

IE I go to download an app and it shows it's got 10 million downloads...

So if you go to the play store it shows 50m+ downloads at the moment....

There are also likely to be other sources such as Meta stating how many people have logged into it.

This is the problem with the last 30-40 years of relative peace and stability - people start thinking it is the natural order of things and don't see the need to do anything in order to preserve it.
