The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

I am running at 260 now no issues. Have also had 270 but I've not felt the need to go higher (yet).

Once burnt in this evening I will be trying for 280-300 htt, so I will be sure and let you know.

I also have a basic A8N-SLI, but it's in its box ready for the MM but I can't remember if I ever ran that at 250 or above. I've got a feeling that I never bothered.

Back on topic - will report back tonight if Premium (and my 146) does the business at 280-300 htt.

Top stuff. I have both a Premium and a Standard sitting here for my new build, which ever one performs better with the 146 will be the one I keep! I can't test myself until the weekend though, so eager to hear of others experiences.

I haven't touched the overclocking game since my Celeron was overlocked 50% from 300Mhz to 450Mhz about 5 years ago. Those were the days!

Anyway, my current system is:

Athlon XP Barton 3000+ @ Stock
Asus Nforce 2 Ultra m/board
X800 Pro flashed to XT AGP
1024Mb of unmatched generic ram (1 x 512Mb PC2700 & 1 x 512Mb PC3200)
400W generic power supply

I ordered a 144 Opty from OCUK yesterday and I am going to get the following to accompany it:

Zalman 7000Cu cooler (EUR 32)
Asrock 939Dual M/board (EUR 66)
1 x 512Mb PC3200 generic memory (EUR 53)
Fortron Blue Storm 500W power supply (EUR 68)

The questions I have are the following, bearing in mind that I only want to get the processor to 2.7Ghz (FX57 speeds):

1) Is it worth buying the Zalman or would the stock cooler be sufficient?
2) I can get Corsair Value ram CAS 2.5 for the same price, is it worth buying 2 of these instead?
3) Any other suggestions are welcome.

I do not want to spen much more than £200 (EUR 300) on these 4 things.
I am mainly a games player so having high SuperPi results or another 50 on 3Dmark is not a big issue for me.

Thanks for the help.

I would recommend a Thermalright Cooler and Established memory (TwinMOS, GeIL, Corsair) any day even it means spending a little more.

quick question about overclocking my 146.

i know that i have to raise the HTT to say around 300.

keep the memory ration to as close as 200, is that right ?

what about the HTT multiple, what's that ? hear ppl say 3x ?

The total speed of the HTT bus is normally 1000Mhz (200HTT x 5) so you want to stay close to that.

At 300HTT most people go for 300HTT x 3 = 900Mhz, which is fine as total HTT speed impacts performance negligably, you just want to avoid instability caused by having the total speed too high.

Firstly I must say I am very impressed with the results people are getting out of their Opterons and it made me buy an upgrade!

@ Home I have a 146 CABYE with 2GB Geil Value (CAS3) Ram & DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D MB which all arrive today!

I've also bought an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro as well and I’m just wondering what kind of clocks do you guys think I’ll get with this setup. I know the ram is probably going to hold it back, but by how much?

p.s i will post some results of what i'm getting tonight!

oops, just realised that I left my HTT at 260x4 all day and night. 1040mhz - seems ok though.

I'll check if it causes problems and turn down the htt multi if need be. I'm guessing when I go for 300 I will have to go for a 3x htt multi ;-)

If I refuse to accept the devivery of my CAB2E and it is returned to the supplier, does anyone know if I should I get a full refund?

They will probably charge a restocking fee, usually 10-15% of the total price. You can only cancel an order if it's not been dispatched.. so I believe.

You can go a bit over 1000Mhz, its not a strict boundary, my DFI runs at 300Mhzx4 quite happily, entirely pointless though, so I turn it down to 3x.

Open it and test it out, then I'll know whether to return mine ;)

If you return it do you know what the policy is about restocking fees etc?
How does this relate to the distance selling cooling off period?
