The Outer Worlds 2

Different folks, one man's poison etc.

I'm having a blast with it, really enjoying it.

And guaranteed artifact and noise free! :P

I'm level 14, only on the second world and already about 20 hours in. I am being my typical loot goblin self, though, and thoroughly exploring anything that looks like it might have a few items lying around.

I'm definitely enjoying it, more so than the first one, but I kind of get why some people are bouncing off it a bit too. It still feels like some systems are undercooked and not as fleshed-out as they should be. It's got its hooks into me regardless, but I am an easy mark for an explory RPG type game, even if it's a bit lighter on the RPG systems than I tend to prefer.

I think so, I'm only a short way in but the skill balance feels better, the characters and plot feel a bit less goofy (although still not as serious as I'd prefer) and the decisions feel more impactful.

I'm playing on a gamepass trial though, so I'm not as fussed about critiquing it as I might be if I'd spent £60 on it.

After three hours, loving it, in for the long haul!
After six hours, bored to tears, not touching it again.

What bored you in the end?
Dunno. Can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe because the open world between quests was extremely bland. Combat was tedious. The whole thing felt like a very slightly better version than the first one. Lasted a lot longer on that one.

It is also quite possible that this type of game just doesn't work for me any more in my old age! Recently completed Ghost of Yotei on the PS5 and loved every minute of the 60Hrs I put into it.

Humongous new patch dropped:

2 days after I completed it on hard. Companions would go down so easily, it was a joke.

So I did enjoy the game, and mostly used high speech to deal with the big decisions in the game - Managed to talk my way out of most 'boss' fights (I guess they would have been).

Game still has some jank. For example I got all the Westport residents to move to Fairfield, and they are all present at fairfield but their dead bodies were also in a line at Westport where (presumably) the Protectorate forces had shot them all.

I was at max level about 2/3rds through the game which was slightly weird. Not sure why but I would prefer to keep levelling up right towards the end as it feels like you are still unlocking news skills and possibilities to deal with stuff, rather than being locked in to a path.

I can see why people might think it was boring, but it worked for me. I will likely play it through again as a completely different character once the DLC is out.

Does it feel more alive in the open world and environments? I found the first just felt a little sparse when wandering round the open world. Am keen to have a go at this after I've finished what I'm currently playing. Probably sub to gamepass for a bit.

I think its rather telling ive not played this for the last few days, its not a bad game per say but theres little draw to make me want to keep playing it, however im getting on the older side and value my free time a bit more than i would have a few years back. I'll still finish it mind!
Its slightly better than Starfield for sure but not by a huge amount.
