The Pascal GTX 1070 Owners Thread

Is there no way to adjust the core voltage?

You can increase it by 0.03-0.04v, upto a maximum of 1.09v. That's it.

Its the same if you buy the cheapest or most expensive 1070, that's why I'm of the opinion to get the cheapest one you can with an aftermarket cooler as overclocks seem down to the silicon lottery more that how the card is built.

Is it safe to push the core voltage to max? Which would be 1.09v right?

Yeeah, but I only just got my 1070 recently and from what I've read increasing the voltage doesn't really gain you much. My fastest benchmarks are at stock volts and mine clocks Average-good.

When I put my 3D time spy score up it was actually the highest scoring 1070 but sure its been beaten by now.

Unless you cool the GPU significantly a small bump in voltage seems as effective as a larger one. You can get a little more from increasing voltage if you are heading towards sub-zero by the looks of it.

1.09 should be safe - there is the possibility with modding to run 1.2v which is probably going to shorten the lifespan of the card somewhat.

feel bad for folk with the 1080/70 acx cards as resale value will deffo take a hit now when the time comes wont it.

I learnt my lesson from the 900 series FTW+ debacle when they bodged up on that release also, so didnt buy evga this time round. No regrest going with Palit, stable and better build quality. Been playing FF13 today at 4k resolution (downsampled to 1440p) with card at 51C very nice.

Yea. Never bothered with voltage. It can make a small difference if you want to keep it at 2100MHz or above, but 2050MHz core was enough for me on mine without touching power limit or voltage so did not touch voltage in the end.

Is a 1070 enough for casual 4k 60hz gaming? I could live with no AA but wouldn't want to turn down too many settings. Or am I better off waiting for the 1080ti and picking up a used 1080 for hopefully a better price than they are now?

Depends what you are playing - quite a lot of one back from current generation of games I can play at 4K fine - but some recent ones like Doom and DX: Mankind Divided the framerate can easily drop to mid 20s with decent/ultra quality settings.

I have doom in my library but haven't played it yet. I have enjoyed things like JC3, GTA5, PCars, Dirt Rally, Dying Light and Tomb Raider etc. I'd be looking at either a Palit 1070 or 1080 if needs be.

1080Ti would be ideal if you are averse to turning a few settings off or if you must have minimum 60fps.

Apart from a few games I managed perfectly fine at 4K, but I do turn off settings like depth of field, motion blur, chromatic aberration etc which I do not like which helps giving a fps boost. Also on most demanding games I had my 1070 running at 2050MHz core and 9200MHz memory.

As Rroff said Deus Ex Mankind Divided is very damanding maxed out at 4K. In addition to MSAA and the settings mentioned above I had to turn off Contact Hardening Shadows to get around 45fps (which for me felt smooth). But with Contact Hardening Shadows on, it was under 30fps :p

Basically even a 1080Ti won't play that game 60fps maxed out. But to be honest some of those extra settings for me made little difference in IQ anyway. Being 4K and having the main settings on maximum like level of detail, textures etc is what matters most for IQ, to me anyway. Hope that helps.

Anyone have Asus Strix edition, whats the maximum overclock you have achieved?
My fans does not spin at all, even at full load.

The maximum I have tried so Far is :

+150 Core
+ 600 Mem

I can check the Firestrike scores when I'm home if needed, but they were around 17800 iirc.

Wow! I thought it was impressive playing Left 4 Dead 2 didn't need the fans on my new Gaming X 1070... But even playing Doom at 1920x1200 at High detail level at a solid 60fps doesn't need the fans either!

Just wow!

This is because the power of a 1070 is wasted in many games at 1080P.

IMO, 1070 = 1440P to get the most out of it, otherwise a 1060 or rx480 is more than fine for 1080P.

Obviously the 1070 will last longer at 1080P, though by the time a 1060 or RX480 struggles with 1080p, there will be far faster cards out than the 1070.

In other words, I'd recommend you get a 1440P monitor to get the most out of your card :D Even the consoles are at 4k now!

Feel free to recommend :) - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18768339

Seems like the Asus PB278QR is the best bet now... (If you do reply/help please do so on that other thread so as not to take this one off topic :))

1070 is for 1080 all modern games maxxed.not above its the replacement for the 970 gtx. 1080 gtx is for 1440 all modern games maxxed.

2 or more for modern games at 4k.

Doesn't seem much of a performance hike on my old 980ti, think I'll wait for used 1080s to come down when the 1080ti lands or AMD launch (if ever?)

If you have a decent overclock on the 980ti then no its a sidegrade for the most part. That said IMO the benchmarks are a little deceptive as based on my experience the 980ti was hitting higher max framerates in places but at the same time struggling a little more in some intensive scenes while the 1070 is holding up a bit better in some intensive scenes though it doesn't hit as high max framerates in some cases.
