The Pascal GTX 1070 Owners Thread

How many of you are able to run DX12 no problems in BF1?

Ive been running DX12 for the last few weeks after months of DX11 and its butter smooth infact its the first BF game ive had no issues what so ever with.

It's the game, dx12 is rubbish in BF1.

In some games BF1 being one of them at release (not sure if it's better now) a 4c/4T processor is a bottleneck now.

Dont know about on release as i used DX11 but it plays faultless now , for me at least.

With a 3570k @ 4.5Ghz... would I be bottlenecked if I bought a 1070?

---

Also something that annoys me! At the moment with my [email protected] and 970, DX11 in BF1 is smooth at 1200p! DX12 is a stutter fest. Now is this my CPU or my GPU that's the issue?

I've got 16Gb of ram already.

BF1 won't launch DX12 at all here, just to add Nv/Dice acknowledged there was a problem on some(not all) 1070 setups a while back(frequent crashing), apart from trying DX12 still not launching on the new DX12 driver, lost interest in BF1 a few months ago so I couldn't say if the crashing is gone or not.

3570 will bottleneck the 1070 like it does your 970-usually not by much, the better the cpu, the higher the fps.

If you want a rough indication of performance increase, I posted a few 3770K 970/1070 BM comparisons when I upgraded last year:

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/970-v-1070-1080p-performance-comparison.18740882/

Going 970 to 1070@1080p is the difference between running high settings on your 970 to near to or full ultra on the 1070.

I'm seriously considering doing something.... Getting a bit frustrated with my CPU now. It cant hold an overclock of 4.5Ghz and the vcore needed to do it is creeping up from 1.33v+. It's inconsistent. In the last few days I've had session of 4hrs and it's fine. Today, it wouldn't even load up in to the Division with out a blue screen. I've backed it down to 4.4Ghz for the time being.

If I did anything I'd upgrade the CPU probably to a 1700X even tho my brain tells me the 7700k is faster. It's hard to say no to a quadrupling of threads!

Then the question would be do I go and grab a 1070 now, wait for Vega or stick with the 970 until the next round of Nvidia cards.

Read today Navi is scheduled for the end of this year.

Probably best thing for me to do is upgrade mobo/cpu stick with 970 and see what happens considering so close to Vega now.

I only game at 1200p but could use DSR to game at a higher res.

I was only talking on gains going 1070 on your current rig, on your stability front, drop it to 4.2Ghz(as drop is negligible) and test stability, if it's solid then just run it 4.2Ghz?

Don't see the point upgrading my cpu as the 1070 is maxing out ~everything@high fps, only a few titles need slightly less IQ for high fps-but I doubt you'll notice higher IQ anyway.

Knowing the experience I'm getting now, personally wouldn't want to sit with crossed fingers hoping AMD might pull something out the bag-whenever it eventually arrives and I would be going 1070.

What CPU are you running?

I'm wondering if my 3570k @ 4.4Ghz is up to the task of powering a 1070?

And what kind of IQ can I expect from a 1070? I currently game at 1200p with a 970 and for the most part, I can turn Ultra on in games... it's defo playable but frames are probably a bit variant - Division for example from about 30 - 55.

Maybe higher since I OC'd my CPU - which has made a noticeable difference.

----

Might I be able to use DSR with the 1070 and game at 1440p (or what ever is dimensional compatible with monitor) Will it max out games at 1400p no issues?

----

Just had a read of your 970 to 1070 comparison. Good stuff. Looks like I should see on average close to a doubling of fps from a 970 to a 1070.

I've got the money for a full platform update but if my 3570k @4.4Ghz is still fast enough for at least 2017 then is there any point in upgrading? If I was to get a new CPU, I'd get a 1700X. Cant bring my self to buy another 4 core CPU. I've been on a 4 core since 2008.

----

Just having a look at some game benchmarks on Guru 3D seems like it's a no brainier I need a GPU upgrade. Also from the looks of the test system they used for most of their benchmarks an 8 core 16 thread CPU is being utilized on average at least up to 8 cores, so presumably a 3570k will be holding the 1070 back a little.

Yes, your cpu will be up for it, it's not much different than mine except in titles that will utilise the other threads(don't think many do).

You'll be able to use DSR, your mileage will vary.

Where the 970 drops and stutters in the heavy IQ titles(ROTTR), the 1070 more or less takes it in it's stride.

Personally would try a 1070 first, then look at cpu upgrade if you feel it's not 'enough', and by what Iv'e read, the 1700 is every bit the same as a 1700X once both are oc'ed- bit tech and a few other sites hace 1700 oc reviews out now.

Now that the 1070 has been out for some time, how do you guys feel about its performance at 1440p? I'm looking to get a 1080 to play at this resolution using my Dell Gsync monitor. Ideally I want all in game settings set to max and FPS to stay around the 80 mark. Will a 1070 cut it?

I have not owned either a 1070 or a 1080 so my views are only based on benchmarks. In short the 1070 will do the job but it sounds like you will need a 1080 to meet your expectations. To stay above 60fps at 1440p all bells and whilst you need a 1080. The 1070 will drop in certain scenarios to around 50.

That's assuming you have a fast CPU too.

I'm looking at a 1070, but from a 1080/1200p perspective.

Guru3D have some nice benchmarks.

My view is that AAA games released in the last few months and moving forward the 1070 will be sufficient UP TOO 1400p but for 60fps at 1440p you need a 1080.

1080ti for 4k

Most stuff runs fine 1070 @ 1440p turned up - the only game I've really had to make much sacrifices (and I still got it looking pretty good) was DX: Mankind Divided and mostly that is due to the engine not really having the best/consistent performance.

DX:MD still ran around 50-55fps with everything turned up but it didn't feel great - I had to turn down a few settings to get a fairly constant 70fps before it felt smooth even with G-Sync.
