I was only talking on gains going 1070 on your current rig, on your stability front, drop it to 4.2Ghz(as drop is negligible) and test stability, if it's solid then just run it 4.2Ghz?
Don't see the point upgrading my cpu as the 1070 is maxing out ~everything@high fps, only a few titles need slightly less IQ for high fps-but I doubt you'll notice higher IQ anyway.
Knowing the experience I'm getting now, personally wouldn't want to sit with crossed fingers hoping AMD might pull something out the bag-whenever it eventually arrives and I would be going 1070.
What CPU are you running?
I'm wondering if my 3570k @ 4.4Ghz is up to the task of powering a 1070?
And what kind of IQ can I expect from a 1070? I currently game at 1200p with a 970 and for the most part, I can turn Ultra on in games... it's defo playable but frames are probably a bit variant - Division for example from about 30 - 55.
Maybe higher since I OC'd my CPU - which has made a noticeable difference.

Might I be able to use DSR with the 1070 and game at 1440p (or what ever is dimensional compatible with monitor) Will it max out games at 1400p no issues?

Just had a read of your 970 to 1070 comparison. Good stuff. Looks like I should see on average close to a doubling of fps from a 970 to a 1070.
I've got the money for a full platform update but if my 3570k @4.4Ghz is still fast enough for at least 2017 then is there any point in upgrading? If I was to get a new CPU, I'd get a 1700X. Cant bring my self to buy another 4 core CPU. I've been on a 4 core since 2008.

Just having a look at some game benchmarks on
Guru 3D seems like it's a no brainier I need a GPU upgrade. Also from the looks of the test system they used for most of their benchmarks an 8 core 16 thread CPU is being utilized on average at least up to 8 cores, so presumably a 3570k will be holding the 1070 back a little.
