The Playstation 3 controller

I am surprised no one has mentioned the crappiness of the directional pad? If they had a normal 8-way pad there it would be tons better than the stupid 4 buttons.

Another thing, what if i like to play games lying on the couch? Do I have to keep my hands level for the motion sensing to work?

Nintendo have a patent on their particular cross shaped d-pad, hence why other companies have to come up with variations.

Im a big nintendo fan but after realising that its only tilt technology im not that angry that sony are using it.

as for rumble, and usb etc, wireless...

Saying its copying is stupid. Its moving with the times.

Ok nintendo go wireless... the rest go wireless...

What did u want them to do? make different coloured wires?.. You can only be WIRED, or WIRELESS... i know which i prefer :)

Have to admit that I thought Sony could do better than that for a controller. It was ok for the PS2, but for the PS3 as well! C,mon Sony design something new!

I just hope they make it a bit bigger, it's far too small at the moment as it's obviously designed for tiny japanese hands. :p

Still I don't intend on buying one anyway, just a shame that they can't push console gaming further like Nintendo and Microsoft have.

hehe makes me laugh when sony use there imagantion they come up with this beauty

so now they gone back to the old one cos tbh that one above sucked! and they have robbed ideas :p

Id love to have been in the board meeting when they was brain storming ideas for this controller

A: Lets use the old design
B: Lets have a motion sensor thing in it, thats cool!
A: Thats genious!
B: How about a big button in the middle?
A: We rock!

no it was Immersion Corperation. Nintendo settled out of court for use of force feedback, or at least their interpretation of it:)

Nintendo used a different method for 'rumble' (back and forth rather than rotational) so the patent didn't apply.

I really hate the position of the analog sticks.

I agree i never liked the layout of the PS pads you have to like bend your thumbs downwards to use the analog sticks properly, its extremely uncomfortable for me anyway.

[EDIT] Also is it just me or do R2 and L2 look to be analog pull triggers now? like the ones on the xbox controllers...

in that respect then who did MS and Sega steal it all from, AND they stole Rare :p

Sorry dude don't wreck sega on this one :D if you ask me sega has been quite original the only thing I can see they copied was slots in the controller which MS copied with the xbox also

Yes, pretty sure they are analogue. Would be ridiculous to not include them.

why do they still use the ugly cross as main directional controller? microsoft has been SO right in using the analog stick as main directional controller....

and by the way, did you know about this? it's for retro games....which is gonna be an absolute asset of nintendo Wii

Is that the actual shape of the shell bit for the controller? They could have made it a bit more friendly for the old hands...

No, the shell for the Wii remote looks more like a GC Wavebird controller, and the remote slots into it from the top.

The Gamecube controller has the analogue stick in the primary position à la Xbox/Dreamcast so why have they changed it for the Wii? :/

That pic above is NOT the Wii controller for 'normal' games. Look at the layout of it, its for SNES and NES stuff presumably (although you probably can use it for GC games too).

Ah okay then. So is there going to be a regular style controller with the Wii as well as the new fangled remote control type one?

From what I can see, there is the 'nunchuck' type affair which is the Wii's primary control method. This includes the remote and hand joystick thing.

A Wavebird style controller shell for 'normal' Wii games. The Wii remote can slide in to this and presumably adds the wireless capability to the shell, as well as a few more buttons.

The above pictured classic controller, for use with the virtual console (SNES, NES and other games)

Controller add-on tastic I would say! :p

Just hope all these extra controllers will be sensibly priced (if you dont get them as standard).
