The Playstation 3 controller

Since when did this become a Sony bashing thread? They make quality consoles which sell well and the majority of the general public are pleased with. End of. Now jump off of the Microsoft/ Nintendo wagon.

Edited.

It's not a bandwagon. We're annoyed because Sony are stealing ideas from competitors and passing them off as major selling points of their new console.

For example, they actually had the nerve to criticise MS for having 2 different packages. Oh how times change  .

Really? I don't know when MS or Nintendo have stolen someone elses ideas and then used them as major selling points of the console.

And no, I won't deal with it when companies like Sony steal a company like Nintendo's innovative ideas just to try and score some cheap sales. It's bad for the industry, and isn't something we should have to 'deal with'

Now you give over.

The problem isn’t that sony are copying people, its the fact that they haven’t even tried to come up with something original that just happens to be like the other console's.

it just out right copying.

It just shows how insecure sony must be about the PS3 that it cant stand on its own merits :(

There are perfect examples given in this thread. motion sensitive controllers have been around for years - what part of 'everybody copies eachother' dont you understand?

you tell me what nintendo have really come up with. what was their idea? the analogue stick? nope, that was around years before. rumble? nope, as you know they have just had to pay for the privilage of using it because somebody else got there first.

Microsoft? analogue triggers? nope, they were on the dreamcast first. controller with slots for memory cards? nope, dreamcast.

i know, i made a comment on that previously.
james.miller said:
exactly. not that i have a problem with the controller, but its a 12 year old design for christ sake. do something original for once.

oh and LOL @ no rumble. moneybags SONY should have just paid them off.

so does this mean that games that use this tilt sensoring won't become multi format then?, could cause a lot of developers problems as they like to get as much money back across all formats

599 Euros = £410 ... plus VAT = £482
499 Euros = £342 ... plus VAT = £402

Prices of £479 and £399 respectively?
dunno.gif

I'm still not keen on the fact that Sony sees fit to put the d-pad in a more prominent position than the left analogue stick. I forces me to revert to use the d-pad a lot for ergonomic reasons in games where I really shouldn't have to.

Cant believe they havent revamped the controller....the Dual Shock is by FAR the worst controller for FPS titles.

The analog sticks feel like they are on a rubber band and make aiming so much more difficult than the Xbox controllers.

FPS should be mouse n keyboard anyway :D Sony have stole quite a few ideas over the years is quite terrible who invented the Rumble that got them sued nintendo?

motion sensing + spacial awareness in a controller?

never seen it done before. motion/tilt sensing yes but not the whole spacially aware bit (if you can call it that).

don't get me wrong, i know all the companies at some point have similar features than others, it doesn't mean they are always copies though.

oh and the dreamcast controller is by far the best controller i have ever used (though i haven't used a 360 controller yet).

Nintendo made their own rumble device, Sony copied another company's patents for their own. Microsoft paid off the same company that Sony were taken to court by.

no it was Immersion Corperation. Nintendo settled out of court for use of force feedback, or at least their interpretation of it:)

Is that Heavenly Sword a PS3 game? It looks bad! It's like a poor God of War!

Everything I read on gaming sites this morning said it was the best looking of the lot! :p

That link on the last page took me to a movie of it and I was very disappointed, my mate walked off saying it looked "terrible". The animation is poor. It doesn't seem to have the smooth movement and graphical depth as God of War. Also, as for lots of enemies... it didn't seem to have more than 8 on the clip I saw.

I could be thinking of the wrong game of course, pretty sure I'm not though :p

Is it the one with an asian looking woman fighting in what looks like an ancient setting?

No, the point is that Sony only put these features in because they have noticed all the positive publicity surrounding the Wii,

I mean if they were basing the console round this, surely it would have been in the announcement at E3 '05? Oh no, suddenly they implement it to their consoles to try and make a quick buck.

Nintendo are the first company to introduce the motion sensors to a main market. They had the balls to develop the technology and base a console around it.

By the way, the N64 had memory packs before the Dreamcast. As for rumble, at least they developed their own technology for it instead of illegally copying someone elses.
