****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

PS3 £399, "oh I'll buy it when it hits £299"

PS3 £299, "err oh err, I'll get one when it hits £199"

PS3 £199, "mmm, ok ,err, I'll tell you what, I'll grab one when they hit £99

Stop kidding yourself.

What a stupid comment. I have always said I'll get one when it's £200 or less, and at least 2 others in this thread that I know of have stated the price they said over a year ago.

PS3 Slim? I think it's still the same ugly console, I can't stand it, it's so ugly with a weird shape, you can't put it anywhere, you can't put anything on it, it's so wide and it's depth is just too much.

It's done on purpose to make the PS3 appear in prime locations in peoples media setups. Quite clever of them actually.

Was I directing this at you ?, I'm directing it at the people that keep changing the price point at which they would purchase a PS3, if that is not you then there is no need to get offended.

Yeah, because the PS3 slim would be as small as the PS2 slim if it had an external PSU

Iirc the Wii uses less power than the slim PS3 and the power supply for that is still pretty damn big. I wouldn't be surprised if 20% of the space in the PS3 'slim' is reserved for the PSU. Ok it still wouldn't be as small as the PS2 slim but it'd be considerably smaller.

It's probably equally deliberate to stop people piling crap on top of it and stifling it's heat dissipation.
I notice there's no 'top' venting on the slim, my phat draws in air from the top, so I'm thinking that this system is much cooler, in which case it should be dead quiet.

There was a post in another thread about noise and yes, it is quieter than the fat 80gb PS3 which imo was as quiet as is needed so any improvement is good.

The Wii's one feels quite empty.

When i took my 60GB apart, the power supply was quite small anyway. So with the power saving going on in this slim it's probably going to be half the size of the 60GB one.

Really want one! :p

Who is it directed at then? You didn't quote anyone which seems to suggest it's a general statement, and one which I don't feel is true.

I'm not convinced as my PS3 (60GB BC model) never radiated much heat from the top curved surface. The heat only really came from the vents.

Dude, it wasn't really directed at anyone in particular, some of the people that read the thread but choose not to post maybe, end of the day it wasn't entirely a serious post anyway, I think most people could see that, just get off my case please kreeeee.

Why would you wait to buy a cheap, nasty thing like the slim when the price drops already affect the current PS3's.

Makes no sense, I could understand if the slim had backwards compatibility, at least then I could put up with it looking like a knock off.

Surely the answer lies within your post, it's made with cheaper materials (the case in particular) so that manufacturing costs are further reduced. This allows for a slight price drop but most likely a nice increase in profit margins too. Add to this the publicity of a new SKU being released just before christmas and i see a tasty profit in it for Sony.

Did you not notice all the consoles sitting on top of it in the pictures? :D

lol, ha!

The newer models of the PS2 slims have an internal; PSU.

And in-regards to the dimensions of the PS3 slim, the depth of the console is less than any standard Hi-Fi Component, which means it will fit on any entertainment cabinet/shelf/stand, and as for "you can't put anything on it" I've honestly never stacked anything on any console I've ever owned in my life and tbh I've never really seen anyone else stack 'anything' on any of their consoles past or present, I'm sure there are a few very rare exceptions but it's certainly not the norm.

Well I haven't really put anything on a console either but that grill design looks so out of place.

If true, quite clever indeed.

Wut

I was saying why are people waiting on the slim to be released when the price drops already affect the current systems.

It's like you're waiting for the cheaper version of the console to come out, just seems daft.

Ow, sorry i misread, i though you were asking why it was released

A proper reply would be:

New toy syndrome, simple as that. It's the same as the people who go and upgrade their processors at great cost for very little gain that you see all over these forums. People just like new stuff innit.
