****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

I wont be buying a ps3 slim as my ps3 works fine (although very noisy at highest fan level :o)

But at the same time you say that you purchase one console @ launch which is a considerable amount of money, how is it that a console at launch is an "attractive investment of my money" but a PS3 @ it's current price point is not ?

Because both the ps3 and 360 have similar features/multiplat titles, you're only then buying the ps3 for the extra features it has- mainly Blu ray and exclusives which people tend to think aren't worth £300+

The slim is £250 and most fats will probably end up going for less than £200.

For anyone that's fussed, my favourite online retailer has set preorders for this at £244.85, might as well save a fiver if you're buying one anyways. Also they're really good at getting orders to you early so you might even get it a couple of days before launch.

OK I kid, but how do you come up with that figure ?, you say,

And out of interest are you really going purchase a PS3 @ £149 even if by the time it reaches that price point the PS4 and next iteration of the 360 is already released ?, because I'm guessing you'll be purchasing the next 360/720 @ launch ?

Its hard to explain my rationale for this, as its mostly "gut feel".

I suspect your right if the PS4 comes out I may skip the PS3 as thus far there has not been a game that has really caught my attention on the PS3.

All I can say is after buying my initial console for a generation I won't spend any more than £149 on the other consoles in that generation.

Also I'll be buying the Wii first.

Then it needs fixed.

Look again.

Im not denying the 360 is a paving slab either lol still you sony can hardly call it slim. Diet maybe but not slim :P

I find "Slim" more of a gimmick name, it doesn't necessarily indiciate it's "slim" by general meaning, more so that it's slim compared to the Playstation 3 "phat". Plus, it's slightly more catchy than "Playstation 3 Slightlylongerbutthinerandlighterthanthephat".

I will be.

I have a 60GB and the moment which i will keep but i just want something a little bit quieter and cooler.

Hang on, I've just realised something, maybe I've missed this.

Is there going to be TWO models of PS3 now? Because if there is, and the PS3 Phat is still available, then isn't this going to be much cheaper therefore making a "PS3" purchase a little bit more justifiable?

Bah, I just pre-ordered.

Gonna sell my launch day 60GB on ebay and ask my mrs to pay the difference for my birthday :)

Damn you Streeteh.. I was avoiding that site! *shakes fist*

They've stopped making the phats, so once they're out of the channel, that's it.

They are stopping production of the PS3 phat from what I've heard, and only the Slim will be produced.

Also for anyone interested, there's a video on YouTube showing how well the Slim stands upright without a stand.

PS2 Slim is amazing! so small, even with the power brick, at the time it was an amazing achievement.

PS3 Slim? I think it's still the same ugly console, I can't stand it, it's so ugly with a weird shape, you can't put it anywhere, you can't put anything on it, it's so wide and it's depth is just too much.

The newer models of the PS2 slims have an internal; PSU.

And in-regards to the dimensions of the PS3 slim, the depth of the console is less than any standard Hi-Fi Component, which means it will fit on any entertainment cabinet/shelf/stand, and as for "you can't put anything on it" I've honestly never stacked anything on any console I've ever owned in my life and tbh I've never really seen anyone else stack 'anything' on any of their consoles past or present, I'm sure there are a few very rare exceptions but it's certainly not the norm.

Havnt seen all the coverage, but unless its near silent, puts out less heat and i can get a good price for my existing PS3, i wont be bothering.

It looks so cheap and tacky, like a fisher price toy!
The existing PS3 at least looks expensive! lol.
