****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

Each generation I buy one console at launch (or as soon as I have the cash) and the rest at the 100-149 mark.

Don't insinuate I'm a fan boy.

OK I kid, but how do you come up with that figure ?, you say,
"If I am to buy a PS3 I will be paying no more than £149 for the console. Thats price point for me that the console becomes an attractive investment of my money"

But at the same time you say that you purchase one console @ launch which is a considerable amount of money, how is it that a console at launch is an "attractive investment of my money" but a PS3 @ it's current price point is not ?

And out of interest are you really going to purchase a PS3 @ £149 even if by the time it reaches that price point the PS4 and next iteration of the 360 is already released ?, because I'm guessing you'll be purchasing the next 360/720 @ launch ?

PS3 Slim? I think it's still the same ugly console, I can't stand it, it's so ugly with a weird shape, you can't put it anywhere, you can't put anything on it, it's so wide and it's depth is just too much.

The newer models of the PS2 slims have an internal; PSU.

And in-regards to the dimensions of the PS3 slim, the depth of the console is less than any standard Hi-Fi Component, which means it will fit on any entertainment cabinet/shelf/stand, and as for "you can't put anything on it" I've honestly never stacked anything on any console I've ever owned in my life and tbh I've never really seen anyone else stack 'anything' on any of their consoles past or present, I'm sure there are a few very rare exceptions but it's certainly not the norm.

What a stupid comment. I have always said I'll get one when it's £200 or less, and at least 2 others in this thread that I know of have stated the price they said over a year ago.

Was I directing this at you ?, I'm directing it at the people that keep changing the price point at which they would purchase a PS3, if that is not you then there is no need to get offended.

Who is it directed at then? You didn't quote anyone which seems to suggest it's a general statement, and one which I don't feel is true.

Dude, it wasn't really directed at anyone in particular, some of the people that read the thread but choose not to post maybe, end of the day it wasn't entirely a serious post anyway, I think most people could see that, just get off my case please kreeeee.

Does anyone know if you can stand the slim on its side like its fatter brother?

You can but personally I wouldn't be confident doing so, apparently there is an official stand being released for $24's, I'm not sure what the GBP equivalent will be though, hopefully no more than £14.99.

I'm buying one because it runs cooler and quieter...

Same here.

"This thing is quiet. Scary quiet. "WTF, is it even on?" quiet. Nick thinks the optical drive makes just a bit more noise than the original when inserting or ejecting a disc, but it didn't seem any louder to me. Either way, once your game or movie is in there, the thing is virtually silent.

Keep in mind we were pretty busy with this today and didn't exactly get to jump into any eight-hour gaming sessions, but we certainly played it. You'll probably be as impressed with its inaudibility as we were. I'd venture to say it's even quieter than the Wii."

And I apologise for reacting so harshly :)

np dude.

How much did you get for the trade in mate? I take it you just paid the difference to pre order the slim from the same shop?

The popular video store gave me £130 credit for a 40gb phat, was £140 last week, trade value has gone down by £10 in a week, matey at the shop said it'll probably drop again soon, I then just used that £130 credit as a down payment/pre-order for the slim, I'll pay the difference once they arrive in store, which I was told 'should' be the 4th of September.

I think that's probably the worst way to get max bang for buck. Should have auctioned it.

True. but in all honestly I couldn't be bothered dealing with the auction site, I'm tired of the fees and all the hassle it entails, plus (and I know this is sad) I actually would feel guilty selling off my 40gb with no warranty knowing that if it breaks that person is buggered, I'd rather lose £40 on it and get the job done simply and out of the way now, no hassles.

I got charged £20 from ebay when I sold my 60gb for £260.

There is noway on this planet would I get anywhere near that for my standard 40bg with six-axis controller, the original 60gb's are quite in demand as they are the only system with full bak-com-pat hardware support and all the extra's, and like I said, I can't be assed with the whole auction site process, the fee's, creating the advert, waiting on peoples bids, packaging up the system and finding the time to post it off, transferring the money from paypal to my bank acc etc, just can't be bothered with it all, I've only probably lost about £40 off my ps3 compared to if I had auctioned it, and also like I said I don't really want to sell the system with no warranty.
