****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

May as well use this thread seen as there isn't one about it, but does anyone know if there is a list of movie titles that will be on the new video store for us lot as soon as it comes.

From what I've read/seen so far, the Slim appears to have a slightly slower drive resulting in slightly longer load/start times for some games and Blu-rays. Nothing drastic, but a bit odd nonetheless. Did see a guy who did a wi-fi comparison though, he got about 67% signal with his normal PS3, but 95-100% with the Slim in exactly the same place. Swings and roundabouts.

According to one report that timed it, and a few other anecdotal results it seems that DVD/BD playback start times are slightly slower but the game start times are faster.

PS3 Slimline load games faster?

Will the PS3 slimline load games faster than the normal PS3?

The only thing that's stopping me from buying one is that games don't load as fast as an xbox 360 especialy as you can install games to the HD on the 360.

I thought you can load games on the PS3 hard-drive as well?

Not really. A few vidoes I've seen so far suggest that occasionally the Slim is slower, occasionally it's a bit faster. It's by mere seconds though, so it isn't going to be noticeable either way.

Wow, it's not like it takes over an hour to load a game. What a silly point to hold of buying a current gen console!

Ok thanks. Main reason I'm choosing the PS3 over 360 is that it's a lot quieter. The slim is suppose to be even quieter. What's the online gameplay saying on the ps3? Are there many players online particularly SF4?

I played the first motorstorm on the ps3 and that seemed to take forever to load especialy when choosing the vehicles.

Motorstorm 1 was shocking when loading cars but tbh it was just the game, i.e. Pacific Rift is fine. Some games require mandatory installs, some don't. I personally don't mind waiting a couple of mins at the start of the game on a one off occasion, some do. I'd say the only game that has noticeble loading times is the masterpiece MGS4. Installs between acts do take a couple of mins which is a bit of a let down. However the levels are sandbox.

There is no difference in loading times in games that do not require an initial install.

Had a play with a slim in town, i prefer the buttons and the anti fingerprint surface is pretty cool. Seems in most places you can get a slim for £69 with a 60Gb, £89 with an 80GB and £110 for a 40Gb. The place that pricematches with the exchange place also gives an extra £1 per item so it may help to trade stuff in 1 at a time or make sure they do it that way.

The faster loading times with PS3 games comes from the fact the Sony logo is no longer displayed before the game comes on . But, The logo is displayed on system startup, So it takes a little longer for the console to start.

This is with Firmware 3.0 btw.

That logo when you started a game always seemed out of place to me.

Is the trade in price £198 for 60gb or 40gb models?

I don't mind paying the £52 for a new ps3 slim, but anymore I don't think its worth it.

^60Gb, think Im gonna attempt to trade in mine tomorrow or day after. You should be able to blag a game as well I reckon if you're paying out for the slim. If you can get them to chuck in Arkham Asylum or something you'll probably only be paying about a tenner.lol

Sounds like different read strategies to me...
magick doesn't really follow normal reasoning.
