****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

Just rec'd my SLIM and have been playing with it for the last few hrs..

Overall very happy. I sold an old 40gig PHAT and bought this for not much more..

Anyway I will say the noise levels are very low.. I've been playing Fifa09 and Fight Night 4 all night to see if i could get the fans to kick in. Had either game running for some time and this thing is not noisy in anyway whatsoever.. My old 40gig started silent.. And stayed silent except for those two games.. Which when played for 10mins, turned my 40gig into a hoover. it was actually louder than my 360.. I also have an original launch day 60gig which is somewhat noiser than my slim and my old 40gig, however it started noiser but never got any noiser.. Unlike my 40gig which started very whisper quiet and stayed that way for most of the time.. But when it wanted to make some noise, boy it did !

I would say the slim noise is comparible to an original XBOX or PS2.. Nothing more than that and never gets any noiser either. Now i know noise is subjective to people, i will add that I live in a silent neighborhood, there's no roadnoise to drown anything out. I find my 360 almost unbearble.. i also found my 40gig at full pelt unbearable, which is why i sold it for a slim. Asthetics i probably prefer the look of the PHAT, but much happier with the power consumption levels and noise levels during game play of the SLIM.

I wouldn't have traded in my 60gig though.. Cos of the BC.. I do wish they'd sort some of the annoyances in the V3.0 firmware though such as the ticker.. Gives the PS3 a cheaper less classy feel.

I've also noticed that if you're in a chat window mid-game, you only have to hit the PS button to get back into the game now, whereas before you had to circle back a bit first. Dunno if that's 3.0 or 2.8, but it's still something that they must have listened to the users about.

My ticker is still switched off btw, although I bet once 3.01 comes to fix the iPlayer icon, they'll fix that too.

i asked Competitor dunstable to price match mod fail luton for trading in my 60gb - they wouldnt do it because quote "we have no competition here, the luton store does" :confused:

so rather than price match, they've lost a sale. well done!


You have been a member long enough and should know better!
 
im still debating to trade in my 40gb for one of these....i would only get £120 for it so would have to pay an extra £130

I've just brought a 80gig Ps3 (with 4 games) for £160 and considering trading in for a new Slim Ps3. I've worked it out the following:

80gig - £165 exchange
Games - £33 exchange
Total - £198

Slim Ps3 and Batman £260

So it's going to cost me an extra £62 on top of the £160 I've paid for the 80gig Ps3 - so really I'll be paying £222 for a new slim and Batman - not too bad!!
 
I walked past a high street shop today and they had a board out front that said:

Sure it wasn't £170? I was in a High street shop yesterday and I don't remember the price. But I do remember you where getting more for the 60Gb model than any off the other models!
 
My dad got a slim and doesn't know anything about games. He got CoD4 with it from a well known high street games shop. I already have that on 360 and he doesn't play games. It's unopened, so tomorrow I'm hoping to exchange it for Batman :) There shouldn't be an issue I don't think.

Nope, I'm pretty sure it was £70.

They were offering more for the other models.
