****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

How does the Multi out work?

Will it allow for 2 player on separate screens instead of split screen?

The multi out is for audio. Previously you could only output via the optical (TOS-Link) or the HDMI at one time. Now, if both are plugged in, it can send audio through both.

A feature for people with audio Amps, primarily, I guess.

It's perfect for people who wish to use the PS3 in a multiroom setup.

Example: On the old "fat" PS3 you had to reconfigure the audio via the XMB to send stereo/5.1 depending on your room set up/equipment. Now, you can output stereo over the HDMI and 5.1 over the optical so you never have to touch the XMB.

FYI: You need to manually select which configurations your equipment will support in the "Audio Output" settings or it will default 2ch Stereo.

So now you have it coming out over all your sound systems at once, must sound really good :p

Well it means if you want to play the PS3 in a different room you just go to that room, change the TV to HDMI and it's all done.

(assuming you have a HDMI multiroom setup)

A retailer has dropped the PS3 trade-in prices now by about 10 quid (£187 for 60Gb). So no point in price matching anymore as it's actually cheaper in the other store now. (£190 for 60Gb iirc). Still probably works out better than selling on ebay or forums after postage etc.

Popped out for a HDMI cable earlier. What...A...RIP! The cheapest I saw in the bigger computer and sister electrical store was £49.99 - the most expensive, for a 3 metre HDMI............£99.99! WTF!

Moseyed back to the No hinting! £4.99. Blammo.

How do they get away with this?! To make it worse they had a huge, four-screen display showing you the worst to best connections (composite, scart, component, HDMI - in that order). They had clearly been messing with the component connection as it looked appalling next to their (very expensive) HDMI cables sitting conveniently underneath the displays.

They get away with it because it's not illegal, and in general, the public are stupid when it comes to technology.

Ok, im really wondering if there PS3 slim is quiet at all. Here's a clip of the sound it makes
Sound: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D8H41N9U

Now turn that up until you can still hear it 5 meters away and that is what mine is doing. Its so hard and almost impossible to show you how loud it is but this is the best I can do.

I have already got it replaced as I thought it was too loud but this one is the same. Is it a faulty batch?

By the way it is louder than my old 60GB by quite a bit.

I can get this for £220 including quidco... so close to my £200 budget!

It's either this or a Madcatz TE which I'll dual mod when I get my first pay cheque, although I should be able to get a slim for less than £200 nearer to Christmas.

80Gb's are only £165 now!

On one of the sides of the box there is a list of what is included. Power lead, composite cable, ethernet lead, charge cable and the six-axis. The bloke didn't even check everything was in mine though.

anyones slim sound like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg1ZN9KnyOQ

Because thts what mine is sounding like. :(

From the dude who made the vid:

It starts after 2 or 3 min without doing nothing (I just leave it on XMB menu) and continue gradually louder until I can't support it more and turn it off.

About cooling, seems like its not that hot to need that much of ventilation, sounds for me like a broken fan or heat sensor which gives order to the fan to spin more depending on the intern temperature. Coz the system is cool when the fan spins that fast.

So how come it's like that seconds after him first turning it on?

I call shenanigans.

my slim seems to be quieter today. maybe it needed to run in! :)

I was about to say this. My Dad got a slim today for blu-ray and watching the iplayer on hdtv. I noticed that it got quieter after an hr or 2 and has remained so. It was fine to begin imo anyway though. It def isn't silent though.

Had a play with it, set it up for optical out etc, and am pretty impressed. One thing though, has anyone set up bravia sync yet? I enabled it on the slim and the bravia hdtv. It works fine for simultaneous on/off procedures but I remember reading that it's also meant to allow you to browse the xmb via the bravia remote control? Can anyone confirm this? Couldn't suss it out but didn't get much time.
