****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

Article is utter testicles from start to finish.

They would not release the slim so quickly and without any publication, a couple of months maybe, but next month? No chance.

They certainly would not release their next gen console early next year, they will announce it at least a year in advance imo. Late 2010 is a distant possibility, but early 2010? Again no chance.

Not so sure about that August possibly to early, but September after TGS would be about right. Not going to see anything official until the slim is about ready to launch, it would put of people buying the old units unless they was priced to clear. The sony wand is due next spring but like you said a new console i doubt it, not going to see that till 2012 i reckon.

Could be August in Japan to start off with - the Japanese have a major shopping spree in that month rather than in December as we do in the west.

As a guess i agree they will do bundles and incentives to stores to clear stock of the original models. This needs to happen first, but no doubt a price reduction and bundles will appear.

This would imo come into effect at earliest in beginning of Q4 Aug-Sept

As for a slim if its to appear it wont appear before October, nah they wouldnt launch PSP GO and new PS3 in the same month and logistically it would be too much of a feat.

I do see Sony possibly doing the PSP trick again with PSP being launched with PSP-GT and have my own beliefs they could launch the PS3 slim with GT5 in November. It is afterall Sonys biggest selling franchise and both PSP and PS3 versions have taken 5 years to come.
Based on a software and hardware view you cant launch at a better time than November to maximise sales potential.

Well thats my guess.

Ahhhhh

I'm guessing there will be a Final Fantasy XIII PS3 Slim so I'll wait to see if there is. They made a FFXII PS2 and a FFVII PS3 after all :p:p:p

Not in a rush as my current PS3 is perfectly fine.

The idea of a PS3 slim sounds good I guess, but it really depends on how slim it actually is and if they improve on the issues with the original PS3 design.

Hardware wise the things that put me off about the PS3 are poor USB port placement and the monolithic size of it.

Though tbh if the phat PS3 starts getting sold cheaper because of the slim I'll probably get a phat if I do get one.

Well take this with a pinch of salt but there also appears to be a rumoured price drop with the release of the 'Slim' PS3,

http://www.jeuxvideo.com/news/2009/00036004-baisse-de-prix-de-la-ps3-ca-se-confirme.htm

"But this time, it seems to be confirmed by our contacts, certain wholesalers affirm that there will be a price-drop! And it gets better, because we can announce that there is a new version of the console that will come out!

The official anouncement of this new, less expensive version of the PS3 will be done during the press conference that the Japanese Giant will hold at Cologne on the occasion of gamescom on Tuesday, August 18th, at 18h French [4pm French time]!"

USB ports are at the front?

Yep, two at the front left near the bottom. It's the only thing I actually dislike about the PS3 hardware, I wish they'd put just one port at the back. The 60GB had a rear port but they removed it with the introduction of the 40GB.

Is this device supposed to be adding anything new or just simply a size reduction (with possibly an external power brick)?

Reports of a 120GB HDD as standard is the only thing ive heard rumours about, it will also run cooler, quieter and use less power than the current ones. I cant think it can be much quiter than my 80 though, ive still not heard the fans go yet.

Ive got:

UK 60GB (original)
UK 40GB
USA 80GB

My favourite is the glossy with proper chrome finish, still looks expensive and classy for a console, fat n all that it is. Cant see me selling to get a slim particulary if its main advantages are mostly cost/weight/size/power related.
Great though for Sony to sell a few extra million and bring the costs down which is still probably PS3 biggest problem not the titles or lack of features.

For me i hope with this new revision comes a completly reworked front end with more features, oh and please Sony its about time you gave customers more options for sorting files, even creating our own folders.

Hope they don't do something silly like remove the wireless connectivity from the Slim in order to reduce the pennies lost on the rumoured price cut... I wouldn't put it past them though.

PS3 looks great just the way it is. All the consoles this generation look perfectly acceptable, unlike last generation... Pass the eye soap
Original Xbox looked nice! Well except the original controller which was comfy but massive.

Especially the crystal Xbox and controllers, looked great.
