The Police Application Thread

Well i have had my results from my assessment centre... and i PASSED :) :D ! Im over the moon, such a high! All i have left to do now is a medical and the fittness test :) Woo Hoo !

You're in then!

Don't worry about the medical or physical tests. The medical tests for your blood pressure, hearing, abdomen test etc, which you should pass easily. The fittness test is a joke too, so very easy.

You should have a drugs test at some point too, and a uniform fitting.

I have a question.

I have my Day 2 (medical and fitness test) on Monday, I'm going to the doctor's to get my medical form signed. I'm actually seeing him about something else as well though. Will he be ok doing my medical form? Am I supposed to pay him?

Also, would you say that recurring acid reflux (heart burn) means I should tick 'YES' to chest pains on the medical form?

Can I ask a silly question, in your interview did anyone get asked about people's ethnic views i.e my example would be someone at work describes the corner shop as the p--- shop, and me telling them they cannot use that language to describe that shop, would I actually say the racial word or just refer to it as P shop ?

Might sound like a really stupid question but I dont want to make a bad mistake.

During my interview when answering a question about respect for race and diversity, I asked if I was allowed to mention the exact word that was mentioned, the lady said yes, so I actually said it.

If you're getting just a general health check up and him filling out the form, you are expected to pay. I believe you can claim this back though. I didn't get charged for mine, so didn't pay. But others on the day did.

Ask your doctor about that, personally I would put it down just to be on the safe side, but state that it's acid reflux and get your doc to sign it.

When asked during my interview with regards to a certain situation I'd been in, I did mention the 'N word' in the original context it was said; I then referred to it in a better sense and a more appropiate word from there forth.

Cool, thanks dude.

I'm quite excited now. Bar any **** ups and hopefully it's plain sailing from here, although many others are waiting quite a few months to be given a start date, so I could be looking at March-June next year, if I'm lucky!!

Any officers in the Met who can offer advice on choice of borough?

I have to pick 6 by Monday, and I'm thinking, for no reason really (I can move anywhere, but would like to be relatively central):

Southwark
Kensington & Chelsea
Camden
Westminster
Lambeth
Bromley (closer to where I live now, so could possibly commute)

There isn't much information out there for people like me who can relocate anywhere. I don't really know what to base my decision on.

I THINK I would like a 12 hour shift borough, but have been told not to make my decision on this basis as shifts can change.

I'm confused :(

I just got back from my Day 2 assessment, which was incredibly easy. It consisted of a medical, finger printing, sorting through some documentation, then the fitness test.

The fitness test consisted on the beep (bleep?) test to level 5.4, incredibly easy. Then a push/pull dynamic strength test to 34kg, also incredibly easy (I got 72Kg, one guy got 105Kg :o)

So that's it. I wait for vetting to be completed and then a (long) wait for my start date :)

I know, or at the very least they should have a yearly fitness test for existing officers. Some of the lumps you see out on duty are ridiculous.

I know. I saw one officer out the other day who's stomach was sticking so far out from under his stabbie I had to wonder if there was any point him wearing it. It looks totally unprofessional, and I don't understand how they can be capable to do the job.

A PCSO at my Day 2 yesterday said that he has a lady on his team who when she started said "I don't do running".

Errr wtf? You're in the wrong job then!

There was a lady on my fitness test when I took it, who was tiny (5ft... if that). she was also the tiniest thing you'd be likely to see. As well as being a smoker she was really unfit. I was running next to a friend for the bleep test, and I had this loud panting (around level 3-4 at this stage). I turned around expecting it to be him and started to laugh at him, when I realised it wasn't him but it was this lady next to him. She barely managed the 5.4 before collapsing in a heap. She had already failed on this once already. She also got the bare minimum on both the push and the pull test, she scraped through by 0.something...

Shocking it was.

hilly have you been given a date yet mate? I hear rumours that recruiting has been put on hold until 2011 :(

Nothing yet chief. I was offered a place at the Kidderminster constabulary in September (due to start November), but due to the trianing being in Worcester I couldn't commit (Worcester is around a 1hr 20 min drive away... and I'm in the process of buying a house!), so it just wasn't feesable. They said we didn't expect you to take this up, but due to you waiting we thought we'd offer it. Fair enough.

Next recruitment is in April apparently (2010), though I haven't heard the rumours of this being cancelled. Novembers was cancelled, which I was originally meant to be on...

Any info is apperciated, I'll head on over to some forums to see if they've heard! :)

yea if you could that would be brilliant Nathan. I've just had a check over on the policeuk forums and it does appear to be true... Nothing set it stone though apparently so we'll see!

Indeed, the problem being is that I'm just about to buy my first house, which is a bit of a pain, as money is tight enough at the moment. Do you know costs to stay in Worcester? I don't have a missus, so there's no worries there ;) hahaha.

Costs are very low!...and being single living away...like uni all over again ;)

ok guys, I'm 23, in the thames Valley area, I'm a single, white, hetero male, I've been told I've no chance of getting in :p

I've had a look and the area isn't recruiting at the moment, is there a specific time when the force is more likely to accept applications?

It's something I've been interested in for a while, so just looking to get some info
