The Police Application Thread

O/T but recently around North Derbyshire I have noticed a lot more armed officers around. Twice this week I have seen them, in the same bank as me in a cue and also this morning 2 of them in tesco's whilst I was doing a shop.

Have been told I now don't have to do the fitness as they don't apply it untill next year to their specials (oops!)

Still not an excuse for me to slack. Still back on the diet and exersise!

When I joined in 2000, you had to reach level 9 on a 20m bleep test, level 7 for females and you had to do 20+ sit ups and push ups within one minute as well as a swimming test and a grip test.

Now, it think it's level 5.4 on a 15m bleep and a push pull test.

Yep 5.4 with 15m bleep and a 35kg push pull test.

I personally don't understand why it's so woefully low. Surely a high degree of fitness would be beneficial to everyone?

Then again, no offense, when you see a 5'2" woman officer who weighs 7 stone, it wouldn't really matter what her fitness levels were. :p

Yes I'm aware she probably has a 6'2" buddy round the corner and that she's probably an overcompensating bitch who would hands more tickets out than anyone. :p

When I join it was level 5.4 but I had to work my way up to level 10.2 while I was on my probation and push and pull 35kgs but yet again had to work my way up to 80kgs, not sure what it was females.

I've heard it has drop to level 5.1 bleeps test and push and pull 30kgs and you have to do it once!.

Those levels are for ACPO forces (England/Wales). Scottish forces have a far higher fitness level.

I also have it on good authority that, for full time cops, you have to pass this fitness test 5 times throughout your probation and are only allowed one "re-sit" should you fail one. If you fail twice then you lose your job.

Fitness levels I previously posted:

Hold up. That must depend on the force I would suggest given that Scottish forces work with the ACPOS set targets which are:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Push/Pull:

Male - 69KG
Female - 39KG

15m Bleep Test

Age......<29.....30-39....40-49.....50-59
Male......9.2.....8.8.........8.2.......6.10
Female...7.3.....6.7.........6.1.......5.2

1.5 Mile in mins

Age.......<29....30-39....40-49.....50-59
Male.......12.....12.5.......13.........14.5
Female....14......15.........16..........18

If the English forces are using 35KG and 5.4 on a 10 metre bleep then that's pretty bad. Christ even the women's tests in Scotland are harder than the men's down South

I get that the poster is probably joining an English force. I was just putting this up here as I am shocked how low the fitness levels need to be for forces down South.

Yup 5.4 on the 15m beep and 34/35 push pull. It is low - but as it states... it's only a guide! Push on until you can push on no further! Zefan, it's nowhere near as PT based as the military - so you win!

Bit of a bump. I finalised my application to The Met to be a SC and today received the email (followed up with my phone call to arrange) to go to their Introduction to the MSC selection process support presentation.

Out of interest, does anyone here know what this involves? It seems to be a presentation about what to expect on the selection process and what the Day 1 - Assessment would cover.

My question, really, is how should I prepare for this? What is the dress code etc?

Thanks Burnsy. It's at 10.30 in the morning on a weekday, so despite having the day off I could still go dress in a full suit as that's what I wear in the week to work. Or is that too much?

As the Police are a uniformed organisation, anything less than a suit would not do TBH. Just because it is not a full time position you are going for (SC) makes no diff. They will judge everything about you throughout the recruitment process.

Yep, that's exactly the viewpoint I share, I'm glad it's backed up.

It sounds like the information evening I attended at GMP, if it is like that, then it doesn't really matter. There were people there in full suits to people in jeans and a t-shirt. Whatever you wear, you won't look out of place. That said, I don't think you can ever be too smart for this kind of thing.
