The politically correct folk turn their attentions to Only Fools and Horses?

journalism of the highest quality. Honestly the more these chump nuggests complain the more they get the back up of people and everyone votes Tory :)

It has to stop soon, getting tired of the complete retrospective look on the past as if we was all (add whatever) ist you want.

Throw her on the dole.

Congratulations, you have been successfully triggered and achieved exactly what was intended with that article, by sharing links to it and driving traffic to their website.

Can you people not see when you're being so obviously manipulated?

Who says that I am not in on it and am thus the manipulator rather than the manipulatee :D

All this censoring the past is annoying. Maybe we shouldn't teach the war in schools any more after all the Germans were more than a bit mean to Jewish people.

My opinion, don't like it don't watch it.

We absolutely should teach what the German's did in their Nazi period. In the same way we should absolutely teach kids about the atrocities carried out by the British Empire. I went to school in the 70s and 80s and we weren't taught a single negative thing carried out by the British Empire even though they carried on into the 1960s. German kids are all taught what Nazi Germany did, why aren't our kids taught our shady history?

It would not actually surprise me at all if half these 'woke outrage' forum posts are coming from the websites themselves :p

Its an anarchists dream, stir the pot, watch everyone squabble. Someone makes an article throwing out sexism, racism terms at something popular, manipulating folk into taking an opposing stance, which stirs up those of a like mind, those of a like-mind to the written article stir up, then people who themselves arent triggered step up and say you're being manipulated, without realising that they themselves have been manipulated into saying to others that they are being manipulated, people rise up to counter claims of manipulation and the whole thing blows up into several stirred up groups squabbling and taking pot shots at each other, all for 10 minutes work and effort writing just 1 article. A small bit of anarchy and watch the fires grow :)

I'd say its about teaching the balance, you have to teach both sides of it..there is both good and bad that came about from the British Empire, the wrong thing would be to only teach the good or the bad, both are equally bad things to do. Teach the good things and the bad things. Same goes for Nazi Germany really, there are some good things that came about from the Nazi period, FAR outweighed by the bad of course but nevertheless there are still some good things (some quite surprising things if you actually look into it) , teach both good and bad and allow the learner to form their own conclusions imo. But then the education system isnt really about people forming their own conclusions, its more about indoctrination than education.

I’m with D. A. Winstanley on this matter.

“...we think nothing is more unfair than to judge of the sentiments of one age by the improved moral perceptions of another…”

Of course teach both sides. My point was we were never taught any of the negative sides, so it was indeed indoctrination into the belief that Britain was amazing rather than a true reflection of history. I have no idea how history is taught now, I'd hope that has changed and history is taught to reflect what actually happened.

As for Only Fools and Horses. Loved it when I was young and have fond memories of it. Like a lot of programming from the 70s and 80s it would never make it on the tv in that format today and rightly so. You could still make a comedy around the same themes but people would cringe if it wasn't updated to todays society. In the same way if you made a comedy in the 80s and used 40s values people would cringe.

The exact instances the author of that piece cites - she has completely misunderstood the point of.

Grandad's inability to pronounce a name, and Del's attitude to things are poking fun at Grandad and Del, not at the owner of the name and women.

Who the hell thinks we're supposed to look up to Del-boy as a role model? He's a figure of ridicule throughout the entire show.

All that said - Open All Hours is the superior show anyway.

homophobic because of the portrayal of that tank guy (dont remember his name)

Lieutenant Gruber with his little tank :D Maybe I’m just a rhino skinned hard man (ooeeerr missus!) but I never saw any homophobia in Allo Alllo.

I agree it would never get made today which is very sad as it’s classic. So many catchphrases that I remember from it! It’s a sad sign of how scared of offending that programme makers have become in that nothing can made that will cause the slightest offence.

That's my sentiment exactly.

Wasn't the series filmed in Bristol?
Pretty sure when I was on a trip there it was part of the Bristol Tour facts.

Yes it was, also Harlech House, just off Avenue Road, West Acton stood in for Mandela House, and in the opening episode, Del was seen ostensibly lugging his wares to a South London market, but it was shot at Chapel Market, Islington.
