The Post Office gave my parcel to someone else and won't refund

Don't see how PayPal would help here...how do they know your mom didn't collect the parcel herself?

I thought after 7 days it was normally returned anyway if not collected?

Anyway, as others have said, the contract is between seller and Royal Mail. Would go back again and ask him to sort it. And get something in writing from Royal Mail that this has happened.

So it took you nearly 6 months to realise that you need to chase up a parcel, really?
How would you feel if you were in the seller's position? Being chased up for an item nearly 6 months later.

You are clearly not desperate for the item, so either write it off or take it up with the PO yourself.

No. Did you even read the thread?

It was chased up more or less immediately. The seller was contacted and refused to do anything. My aunt, who is in her 50s, then got given the run around by the PO and asked me to help as a last resort. I could care less how the seller feels. My aunt paid for something and didn't get it. I'm going to help her get her money back.

Apologies, skim read the whole thing and though you only chased it up now.

Sticky situation there, seller sent item and it's the PO that lost it. Was it sent insured?
Probably best to work something out with the seller to see if he can claim from them, but in any case open up a dispute on Paypal before the deadline is missed.

Paypal will not refund you

They have a signature on slip, so the seller has done their bit.

Your beef is with the royal mail not paypal and seller

Nope.

The seller has a contract with the OP's aunt to provide the purchased item in exchange for payment.

The seller has a completely separate and unrelated contract with RM to deliver a parcel to the OP's aunt in exchange for payment.

The OP's aunt has no contract with RM, and is merely dealing with them as an agent of the seller - she can't claim any compensation from them, because she has entered no contract with them.

The OP's aunt needs to deal with the seller for their failure to provide the item (whether this is due to RM is of no consequence to the OP's aunt).

The seller needs to resolve this failure (either by a full refund or by providing the item in question) - if they then decide to go after RM for compensation, that's their business, and nothing to do with the OP's aunt.

In that case, your sorting office is breaking the law.
Perhaps breaching their own controls, but I doubt very much they're breaking the law. I suggest you stop judging everything based on your own experience. I've also collected parcels from my PO sorting office without my 'something for you' card.

They are only supposed to hand it over if you have the card plus an id with the correct address.

No worries. I think it had some insurance, because it was sent tracked, so the seller should be able to claim from the PO. I think they've been hesitant to help just because of the hassle and they assumed my aunt would just forget about it after a while.

Not in any post office that have dealt with. If you don't have the card, you don't get the parcel.

This is my experience. I was out when a parcel delivery was attempted, got the card - went to pick it up the next day but I'd left the card at home. They wouldn't let me have the item despite knowing the address and even the package contents.

Had to wait for them to redeliver it as I couldn't be bothered going home again and back with the card.
