...and how do you stop him jumping and scuttling away?

You cant lol. They run about constantly, i just had to keep moving the camera back and forth to get it in focus and take the shot quick. Most of my shots were out of focus. Also had it jump at the camera a few times :D, wish i could capture it before its about to pounce.

some thing I've spent many an hour trying to capture with no success.
I saw on flickr a guy who caught grass hoppers just as they leap, he was using some light/motion sensors to trigger the camera though.

got my new panasonic fz38 these two are the only ones that aren't really bad still getting used to what the controls are and how to use them

A couple more that came out ok. I think I'll look into focus stacking before I take any more insect macros as i couldn't seem to the the eyes and the front legs in focus even at f22 . The DOF is ridiculously small with these extension tubes on.

Could also do with another flash and a better light way of softening the light as its still quite harsh with kitchen roll taped over it.

My fav from my first paid shoot, using a 3rd hand 10D, a £50 50mm f1.8 and no tripod. Didnt come out too shabby (perhaps a diamond in the rought hough :()

Contrast was higher before photobucket ruined it.

Thanks man. I'm hoping to use the funds earned to pick up a macro lens in the next few days, so i'm able o do some more interesting shots. When you;re doing a whole menu of drinks, there only so many angles and bits of fruit you can scatter around before you start seeing the same tired patterns really quickly.

Heres another i liked. Again with the contrast though...

I actually find shooting food / drinks, as long as they're interesting when served, to be very fun and full of potential to shoot~ You're doing very well so far though :)
