The eye is a bit soft which I would have preferred a bit more in focus. Should really look into focus stacking.

Which lenses are you both using? Guessing the shot tachyon has done is using extension tubes and if so, which ones mate? Only the canon 65mm MP-E lens can get that far in with no tubes but its reportedly one of the hardest lenses to use regardless of brand or platform lol.

@kevin. Thanks, appreciate the comment.

@James. That was taken with the MP-E 65mm at probably around 1.5x or 2x. It can be a ridiculously frustrating lens to use but at the same time very rewarding. The DOF is razor thin and I should really be looking into focus stacking but again that's something which is probably tricky enough in itself.

Was having problems with my lighting recently so I'm currently messing about with home made diffusers. Shot possibly a tad underexposed. Was windy today as well so got a couple of shots and then pretty much decided to call it a day.

Edit: You also asked about tubes. I occasionally use Kenko tubes on a 50mm f1.4 and get pretty decent results as well, and of course it's a much cheaper option than the MP-E.

Ah so you have the MP-E! Cracking piece of kit but I'm avoiding it intentionally as I just don't have the time to try and master such a hard lens :(

The 100L is also a cracking lens. I use the sigma 150 F2.8 which is probably my favourite lens as its so versatile!

Few random ones from me today using two new processing styles I've made, one which is B&W and another which is a weird take on sepia/vintage/modern

Some great photos there.
I particularly like the second and last ones. I've never quite got the hang of doing photos of everyday items but the egg is great. Have you edited it much? The colour is very nice and 'warm'.

Just added a preset I made which is a mixture of vintage and modern warm styles. I try and avoid going mental with the PP if possible so the shot is quite close to the RAW in terms of editing.

The only tip I can really give that'll be useful for all shots like the egg one is try and get the framing right before you even get the camera out. I put the plate on a table near a very large window which was allowing a lovely ray of golden light through it, setting the tone for the photo quite nicely before I even began. All you have to do then is mess around with the depth of field and composition until you are happy and even boring mundane everyday items can look interesting again lol.

Just invested in some professional studio lighting to take the concept even further so I'll be showing some of the results of that later next week (arrives tuesday supposedly!)

As for the photos of my staffie, I was laid in the grass using a 150mm F2.8 lens and got my girlfriend to say the words "daisy do you want a biscuit" whilst she was eating the long leaved plant and I got that shot. Its easy to set this sort of shot up when you involve food with pets. I did a similar shot of the same dog eating its dinner to get another strange pose by using continuous shots to ensure I captured a few of them.
