The last sunset of 2012, happy new year all.

Taken with Panasonic GX1 + Kit lens...quite impressed at what this camera can deliver, considering how the original file looked.

Flamboyant, no. Just one of a very very small few (700) that I am happy with, hence my astonishment :(

Quick one from my first brief trip out with the 400mm (this one has the 1.4x attached)..there is barely any IQ reduction with the extender, nor significant AF speed loss

Guessing on the 1D

That's incredible quality, DoF looks almost perfect for wildlife stuff...

Looks sharp and bokehlicious :)

Richmond Park?

kd

Yes, my first run with with both. Problem with Richmond Park (especially today) was there was too many people and trying to frame without the multitude of people/cars is a challenge. Also was quite funny as a woman let her dog loose and caused near mayhem with the deer, like that Fenton video. the 1.4x offers a good safe distance for them not to be alarmed by me. Going to go again on Saturday so I can master the combo more, and doing a running event for my partner's club on Sunday.

Here's another...

How close can you get to them without startling them away? I've never been to Richmond Park but to able to just sit there quietly in a bush until one walks by or something during the early Dawn hours would be amazing!

That's what I will be doing on Saturday :D . I just sat low in the undergrowth and they didn't really mind me there. The stags today were difficult to get close, and the 400+1.4x tc really helped. For the male deer, today would estimate could not get closer than 40 foot or so without them getting startled.

I am hoping my 2x arrives too as that will be even better.

Some more than others for sure. The ones I were following always kept their distance from people. The more lighter ones were not as bothered.

I think in a more wild setting would need the 2x or use the 7d. We do a fair amount of camping throughout the year so would like to go to more wild places this year. Not sure id go the whole hog and wear camouflage :p
