The new drivers are quad drivers afaik.

The main difference between the manufacturers is the XFX have been granted permission to make pre-overclocked versions. Other than that its down to what 'extras' come with the card (games/utilities etc)..oh and the HSF sticker.

So basically just get the cheapest one?

I must stop reading this thread.

I'm trying to hold off buying a pair of these cards & wait until the DX10 cards are out. However a pair of these is proving mighty tempting, along with a pair of the alphacool waterblocks of course ;)

THINK ABOUT THE HEAT! You would want a tripple loop system to keep it all under control!!

Agent.

P.S. Is there really much point waiting for DX10? Lets say it comes out in 3 months time, its going to be a year+ before any games start to use it properly! *nidges towards quad SLi..*

A simple two loop system would be fine: one for the four GPU's, the other for CPU, northbridge etc.

Although you'd need a fairly decent radiator for the GPU loop ;).

Found a nice little review of a Crossfire vs Quad-SLi, couple of interesting points - mostly that the drivers aren't ready yet - but Nvidia gave us this as a 'do I need Quad-Sli?' guide: (AA/AF vs resolution)

Plus a couple of others - but bear in mind this was with the old drivers and Nvidia have said that these initial boards were for system integrators, not home users, so they weren't properly 'tweaked'

Interestingly, at lower resolutions the Quad actually slows things down - only really for Dell 30" people...

get the EVGA cards now and do the step up prgramme with them and get the DX10 when they come out by just payign the diffrence?

Hmm.... if i get a dell 30" and quad SLi - am i actually going to be able to play games on it or what??? it seems theres nothing that can play it at natural res, and when i lower the res it supposedly slows it down EVEN more!?

That may be true, but there is no doubt that the next gen of graphics cards will be faster than the ones out currently, DX10 or not.

All of the 'big' games run fine at the Dell's native resolution, and both Doom3 and Fear were fine at high quality settings (still more than reasonable frame rates) - bear in mind that as the drivers improve, so too will the frame rates - it should set you up nicely for the next year or so.

Very true - but who can tell the difference between 60fps and 80 fps or somesuch?????

Personally going to go Xfire this month - or early next, with a 24" TFT and hope that will do me for quite a while to come

i just installed my 7950gx2 and its autodetected in control panel @ 598/768.

Are the autodetected clocks stable or just plain wrong?

Hopefully my 7950GX2 should arrive tomorrow. I'll post some benchmarks once it's all installed. Hopes it fits in my case, if not I'll just have to run my rig on my desk out of it's case for a while until I get a new one.

It's a bit hit and miss tbh. If auto detect gave you 598 on the core thats really high.

I just use the autodetect as a starter for 10 and then do the manual testing myself - just make sure you do a decent artifact sweep at the end and all will be well (I like to leave it for a couple of hours - but worth keeping a beady eye on it!)
