If it 'aint broke it must need fixing.

Gibbo, they cost 2.5 pence more to buy wholesale because the pound dropped 5 cents against the dollar ?

A 1000 units only cost 25 quid more at that rate and they are 10 quid dearer each ? Thats still £9975 profit, hardly breaking the ocuk bank are we ;)

To be fair thats a bloody good point.

They can charge what they like; with this being an item in obvious demand from the enthusiast market they are well within their rights to increase the price. They could have put another £20 on and they know they will still sell well.

Fair? No.
Good business sense? Yes

i dont think they would have sold any if they had put a £30 premium on them tbh

Stag, when did i say they couldnt ? All i said was that the £ - $ rate was no basis for the extra tenner.

I know they can charge what they want, ocuk always charge a premium on new releases and people always buy.

No arguements here, I was just trying to highlight ocuk's cutthroat business tendancies.

:p

Hi there

How do you work this out?

I already said OcUK owns its Q6600 stock purchased at a dollar rate of 2.03.

The new Q6600 GO stepping has being purchased at a dollar rate of 1.98.

On a product that cost $250 thats:- (The Q6600's don't cost $250, this is for example only)
$250 / 1.98 = £126.26
$250 / 2.03 = £123.15

So I don't know where your numbers are coming from but thats clearly not 2.5 pence. The difference due to the dollar rate change is actually over £3 per CPU difference. So on 1000pcs, thats a lot more than £25, in fact its £3150.

You might be forgetting what I said earlier that when we took in our Q6600 stock, it was purchased when the rate was 2.03, we also set our pricing for both the Q6600 and Q6600 GO based on this rate. The fact the rate has now dropped were still holding the original price we set originally based on the 2.03 dollar rate of £159.99+VAT. Plus you guys are also assuming that UK distribution is also not charging more for these chips due to the rarity of them.

Now I don't know how much money you guys think there is in PC components but there is not a lot at all. OcUK has minimal margins that we don't go below but the fact is on CPU's there is not huge amounts of money to be made, your roughly looking at 10%. When you have to hold that product in stock, support it, warrant it, then have other overheads such as these forums then 10% really is not a lot. Now just because some of our competitors may decide to drop to much lower margins is something OcUK does not practice which means we won't always be the cheapest but what it does mean is we shall be sticking around because were a profitable company.

Look Guys

we all know that if we waited a couple of weeks then we could save a couple of quid. That's not the point though.

Most of the people on here do this for a hobby and a couple of extra quid to get their hands on the new toy early is not an issue.

I've already got a Q6600 but it's a B3 and quite a good one at that. I want a G0 though and after I flog my B3 on fleabay I'll be down on the deal but so what.

I might even keep the B3 and build a SETI crunching rig.

If I was worrying about every penny I spent on computer stuff I wouldn't be playing about here.

Each unto their own. It could be worse. I could be spending a fortune sticking ridiculously loud exhausts on a Saxo or something like that.

PS Gibbo - The BMW M3 CSL signature does not rest well with the " there's not a lot of money in PC components" comment ;)

I'd pipe down with all the grumbling, Gibbo has got G0 steppings in for the boys who wanna play.

I am cracking up at all the hardcore clockers who are swapping out their B3 Q6600's for this latest G0 revision! :D

Still is it keeps that person happy I can't knock it, gonna keep my eyes on the members market for any 'old hat' B3's ;)

Oh the hype, you gotta love it!

BW - If it was all hype then fair do's on your comments.

There are a lot of posts and data to support the better "overclockability" of the G0's.

If I was a sane person I would hold on to my B3 till the 45nm chips came out at the end of the year then change up.

Bottom line is I can afford to play so I'm not losing sleep over £40 or £50. It's not even the price of a decent night out. :D

Please spare me the lecture :)

I don't think many people here can be classed as sane

Lol don't get defensive, as I said if it keeps u happy I can't knock it, trust me, I'm an overclocker! ;)

To flip your theory on its head I would imagine they are some poorer overclockers who will buy your B3 quad and save £50 and have a good night out! :p

There is if you sell enough of them ;)

Thats fine.

Fact is you will yield lower clocks for the same money plus a cpu that has really zero resale value.

Datta boy! :D ;)

Obviously there is a whole world outside of members market!

IN a few days G0's will be the norm.

no one will want the B3's hence why people are getting rid of them while they can.

Getting a cut price B3 and saving myself a few quid holds no interest.

Pumping 1.55v for 3.2ghz is hardly worth any saving.

Not when I can get a G0 and have 3.6ghz maybe 3.8ghz goodness.

People selling their B3'snow on the bay before G0 hits have the right attitude.

Meaning they will lose little money and maybe gain 600 mhz.

Everyone wants lower temps and more speed.

Including you if you would only admit it.

You will still get random people who wont be bothered oblivious to CPU steppings who will see the cheap Q6600's on places like famous auction sites etc who will buy the B3 steppings, same goes for general retail shops around the country. . . . not everyone are geeks like us who overclock etc & read every detail their is about hardware/cpu's etc - more the fool them.

Guess I'm going to get the "Speak for yourself reply"

lol :)

a few other stockists have put preorders up for stock arriving on the 22nd or 23rd. all at a £10 premium on the B3s, but still 8 quid lower. kudos to OCUK for getting them in first, and sure enough some of the gear you guys sell is cheaper than elsewhere (spend a few thousand with you myself) but i can wait a few days partly due to circumstances but also partly due to the fact that that 8 quid is MY 8 quid lol.

Hi there

We have now shipped nearly all of our pre-orders for this CPU. So tomorrow there will be 100+ happy overclockers. :)

We do have plenty of stock left and if you order before 4:30pm you will get the product next day as long as your payment goes through without issue. :)
