The RAC have lost my car.

I lost a car at Farnborough airshow. It was a courtesy car we had at the time and honestly couldn't remember what it was other than being a blue Kia.

Anyone who's been to Farnborough will know it's hard enough to find the car you recognise let alone one you don't. It took a lot longer than I care to admit to find it!

You absolutely can report it as stolen if you've given their customer services sufficient time to deal with the matter and with a car I'd expect an update/escalation within 72 hours to be reasonable personally.

Personally I've had good results with the RAC aside from being one of the longer ones to attend - customer services have always been good and the person responding has always been friendly and helpful unlike some of the others where they are so dour and act like you are putting them out.

To be fair with the Easter bank holidays and school holidays, etc. they are probably backlogged but still. If they can't effectively communicate to work out what is going on that is on them.

Absolutely - is the car on finance? If so I'd be charging them a pro-rata rate of your monthly payment for the time they've had the benefit of using it.

I'm assuming you have another car to use - we only have the one and being without for a few days would be extremely inconvenient, never mind for almost 2 weeks. At the very minimum I would be expecting them to provide a hire/courtesy car at their cost until they return yours.

I know. I've lost my keys before. I lose my phone all the time. I've never now lost a car.

FTFY.

In all seriousness I don't buy the "you can't speak to customer services" or "you can't speak to a manager". Phone up make a complaint, state a reasonable deadline for when you expect to have a status update, and make it clear that if that's not met, you'll have to start legal proceedings.

I'd hope it's a rare occurrence for a car to go missing, but they must have some sort of audit paper trail to track what was picked up and where it was dropped off.

Maybe being used as a taxi somewhere
or as a car/prop in another kind of video, or else in a heist... Either way get one of those CSI UV light things for when you receive it back. At least you'll know which. Just get it deep cleaned ;)

on a note of caution hoping you get it back ok, family member had this happen to his bmw when he broke down on holiday, rac again .
vehicle was missing for 5 days then he was told its at x compound and theres a problem.
apparently the driver took it to a garage compound to be picked up next morning for onward travel. whilst there someone broke into it and ragged the stereo and personal belongings out of it.
rac said garage responsible, they said rac etc you get the picture took 3 months to be settled and a very bad taste.
