Did anyone try one of the Alphacool blocks on their 6900 XT Toxic LE/Extremes yet?

My delta has slowly been creeping up over the past few months with the ThermalRight SilverKing LM, I've ordered some Conductonaut to try out this time instead. Looking at alternative cooling solutions for the future...

I cleaned off all the SilverKing and put on some Kryonaut paste in the mean time and the difference in temps is terrible, LM is too good to not use.
I suspect it’s more to do with retention bracket loosing some tightness IM than the LM.

I was just thinking this over the past 15 minutes and considering trying to find the nylon washers I used on my old 5700 XT as per the Gamer's Nexus video for more mounting pressure.

I just rebuilt my system from my Phanteks Evolv X into an O11D EVO and I have another 10x Arctic P12 fans coming in the next few hours so I may pull the card back out and inspect the mounting solution and see if there's any way I can get more pressure.

I used MG Chemicals conformal coating on the components that surround the die and used a heat gun at 60C for around 30 mins to cure it, I then cut out some bits of Kapton tape and built an extra layer of protection over it.

I didn't want to go the nail varnish route because of all the variations in ingredients and guidance regarding not using certain types.
The combination of my lack of confidence and the uncertainty in varnish/polish selection just made me opt for what is, in my opinion, a more professional solution.

I've kept clear of alphacool blocks after the disaster they made with the Vii block. Even corrected the ek block I used instead was night and day for temps. I use bykski on my 6900xt to great affect.

You'll get a block from China in around 2 weeks. I did my brother's 6800xt tuf card with a bykski block. That arrived in just 9 days! The key is to add pads to the rear of the card to get to heat off into the backplate too.

Thanks for the info.

I'd like to see some data on the 6900 XT Toxic with a water block on and how the hotspot is in comparison to the standard AIO but I've yet to find someone who has done it :( Maybe I'm just crazy

As far as I can see, the retention bracket is relying on some 1.5mm spacers to do the heavy lifting in combination with the actual bracket being concave, working together with the screws to pull the AIO block into the die.

I assume over time, the spring force in the retaining bracket may have deteriorated as well as the springs on the screws.

I may attempt to lift the bracket away from the PCB by shimming the spacers so I can get a little more mounting pressure.

So I got a little bit of a financial break finally and decided to have a look at team Red :D

Just need to order a braided/combed 6 pin to make it look a little neater.

Very nice.:)

This is the card I would be using if I could get the Rad into my case.

And on TROH.:)

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Radeon RX 6900 XT.

@Dicehunter Looks like you're brave enough to run the Toxic rad as incoming on your sys, is that right? Heating things up nicely I bet! :D

Honestly not too bad, I have the rear as intake too, With custom made magnetic dust filter, So the CPU AIO acts as the only exhaust. Temps are fairly decent.

Not the latest game but still working my way through it, Shadow of War with the highres texture pack, Max settings 3840x1600 and the general system temps aren't bad :)

Definitely related to mounting pressure.

Threw some Conductonaut on and temps were still crap.

I cut in half some of the little rubber shock absorbers for the HDD's that came with my case to use as spacers for the retention bracket and then my delta dropped from 40C back to 25C.

I'm going to order a selection of nylon washers again like I did for my 5700 XT and try and try for some more pressure, not too much obviously.

Nice one. Share some pics before, after and during the process too. Might be useful for other users what you did and how you solved it.

I accidentally found some old fibre washers in a toolbox I had in the cupboard.
They're 0.8mm thick and I tried with two of them per corner but ended up using three.

I simply removed the backplate, unscrewed two corners of the retention bracket at a time and put the three washers under each corner.
In terms of getting the screws in, I apply downward pressure to the screw until it hits the first thread on the AIO block and then I give it a full 360 turn of the screw driver. Once I have all four corners done this way, I work from top left to bottom right to top right to bottom left, corner to corner, half turn at a time until I was happy with how tight they are. (Almost as tight as stock).
There's nothing stopping anyone in future from leaving them a little loose if worried and checking temps > shutting down > tightening further > retest.

I'm back to the mid to high 80's on the hot spot at full load 2750MHz to 2850MHz at 1.2V, 382W with fan speeds fixed at 45%.

Prior to the washers, I was hitting 95 and throttling at 2450MHz at 1.15V at -10% power limit with 100% fan speed.

I'll have to take the backplate off this weekend and take some better pics, the only one I took is after which is above where you can just about see the washers through the backplate.

It would be useful I’m sure. I’ve tried the washer method in the past on the 5700 XT and Radeon VII but mostly I found it made no difference or actually caused worse temps.

Luckily I have a good mount on my Toxic and so far Junction temps have not changed much if at all over the course of 6 months.
