The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

Hi all,

After 12 - 18 months out of gaming, I'm finding myself drawn back and wanting to replace my 5700XT.

I've seen a 6900XT at a decent price (comparatively) and was about to pull the trigger when I thought I'd check some YouTube reviews only to find several 'influencers' losing their minds, specifically when it comes to Warzone (which was the last game I played extensively). Something about "micro-stutter" making the game unplayable.

Is it really that bad? I'll probably jump back into Warzone for a bit, maybe some Hunt Showdown and then the next COD/Warzone 2 but I don't want to shell out cash if there's a known issue with this card and Warzone. Can anyone put my mind at rest please?

War zone debug thread continues, from memory it was one level and both AMD and the developer are working on it. In other the news it’s a fab card.
Yep issue under investigation. Does not affect all users. It's limited to one map (Caldera) and generally at low settings and resolution only 1080P/1440P.

If you use max settings or 2160P, you may never experience it.

Hopefully it will be fixed in a game update. All other maps work flawlessly, and RDNA2 is much faster (25-50%+) than Ampere at all settings/resolution/maps. :)

Hello guys, this is my first post here. But sadly with a problem. Couple days ago build pc for myself, not the first one of course.
Spec:
nzxt kraken z53 lcd all in one 240mm intel/amd cpu water cooler
●amd ryzen 9 5900x desktop processor (4. 8ghz, 12 cores, socket am4)
●msi mpg a850gf - 850 w
●amd radeon 6950 xt mba 16gb gddr6 pci-express graphics card
●corsair vengeance rgb pro sl black 32gb 3600mhz ddr4 memory kit
●be quiet! Black pure base 500dx windowed argb pc gaming case
●samsung 980 pro 1tb m. 2 pcie 4. 0 gen4 nvme ssd with pro heatsink for pc
●msi mpg carbon max wifi x570s am4 pcie 4. 0 atx motherboard
So, and from first turn on, when tried to make benchmark, it crashes, and reboot...
Thinking maybe that psu is not enough for this build? Because dont have any idea what could be... also tried warzone, only main menu, crashes and reboot... couple other games, also reboot. Couple diffrent 3d benchmarks, also reboot, after couple sec... card was buy from overclockers last week.
May have any suggestions what could be? ‍♂️
Bios updated, drivers was tried recommended, newest, and beta.
Waiting an ideas, sorry for my bad english.

*UPDATE!
Was faulty PSU! Problem gone after replacement.
Thanks for opinions!

Crashes and then reboot... are you sure your memory overclock is stable? Try enabling geardown mode. If that does not help, try reducing memory frequency to 3200Mhz to see if that's the cause.

Current dram frequency is 2666Mhz, there is only two XMP profiles to choose 3600Mhz... but I tested memory, and it was without faults..

850w should be fine for a 6950 in that build. Is your memory the 4 x 8gb kit ? Have you tried it with just 1 stick in ? Just make sure the memory is running at 3600mhz and the timings are the right ones for that speed and its running at the correct voltage. Might not be the memory thats faulty might just be the memory doesnt like that motherboard or vice versa so double check its running at whats advertised on it. You might need to try setting it manually and ignore the XMP profiles. Been reading on reddit someone with that board had the same issue and needed to set it to 3600mhz manually ignoring the XMP profile.

No, my memory is 2x16 gb kit. Optimized for AMD. Yes, also tried with one stick. OK I will try it, to set it manualy. But now another thing, was download some program which can stress cpu, gpu, memory, psu and other stuff. So I tested cpu, fine. Memory- no errors. Hard drives- no errors. But just I press test 3D mark test, the same second pc crashes and reboot, also try to stress psu, exactly the same thing...
On msi 850w psu there is 3 pcie ports, port 1 is when your gpu needs around 150-200w, when you connect in two ports it can be from 200-300w, and finaly if your gpu needs more, with all 3 ports you can get from 300-350w, but problem that on amd 6950xt is only two 8 pin connections, so I can connect only two pcie ports from psu thats mean around 300w. Maybe that could be the reason because recommend for this card is minimum 350 ?... realy it so confusing now...

If it is crashing and restarting just on 3D applications… Do you have a spare GPU to test in your current set up? Your PSU will be fine.

Your card’s default power limit is set at 284/285W. You need to manually increase the power limit, then it will raise the power limit to 340W.

Can you go into event viewer and see what errors you get in the system section. It would be really handy if your system created a crash dump. Silly question do you have both pcie cables connected to the graphics card.

Have something https://ibb.co/3Sq83KN
But there could be more than one reason...

That error means nothing typical Windows unhelpful error.

Make sure you have the ram in the correct slots as they need to be in certain slots, eg think mine need to be in 2 and 4.
Also with regards to the PCIE, its recommended you have one PCIE lead between GPU and PSU for one 8 pin and a separate PCIE lead between GPU and PSU for the 2nd 8pin. Dont have one PCIE lead feeding both 8 pin sockets.

Could be the PSU trouble is only way you know for sure is trying another PSU.

Hi, thanks for help. But ram is in right place 2 and 4 slots. Yes about two separate leads I also know, thats correct.
Just now tried Gtx 1050 Ti, and it worked without any problems. I know its not the same card in power meaning, but at least I know that with my RX 6950XT is something wrong, because I can't bealive that msi 850w psu can't handle it.
Any suggestions now?
