Yep, set everything to the absolute max on vulcan apart from the dynamic resolution option. 4k
Looks like creamy perfection at 66fps to 75fps

I find i get higher FPS on DX12 than Vulkan, do you?

Plus HDR does not work on Vulkan for me i find.

The whole game doesn't even start I get a black screen with HDR on.
I'll try dx12 hdr and check the frames
Yep same issue. DX12 is faster by about 6 FPS in the benchmark, but Vulkan is a bit smoother when moving around. I use DX12 as I love HDR in this game.

So I get
Dx 12
Min 11
Max 79
Avg 55

Vulkan
Min 14
Max 122
Avg 60

Also managed to get hdr to work on vulkan, but god knows how as it won't work again now. Or in dx12

Interesting, it's the other way around for you. However, i suspect i know why.

When you switch APIs it resets all other image quality settings to default.

Did you validate and check that settings were identical between runs?

If you toggle Async compute to on in the Vulkan config file it helps performance, but it stops DX12 mode from working.

RDR2 is a bit of a finnicky beast i find. There's also the bug whereby as soon as you alt tab you are in windowed mode and you have to alt tab to volume mixer to raise the sound every time you launch the game.

I went through every setting and re set them to absolute max after changing to dx12 yes.
When you say to toggle async compute is that in the games folder?
Yeah it's just a tiny bit faster and smoother in vulkan

Furry muff, gonna retest this myself now as my results were the opposite when i last checked.

Rockstar Games > Settings > System

Async compute set 0 to 1 and save.

Also found a work around for hdr. You disable it in the game using the xml file but enable in Windows. Then turn it on when you get into the main screen or in game, but only in full screen mode.
Apparently it only causes the main menu to dissappear and go black, otherwise its working for vulkan and dx12

Nice, but when you alt tab out to turn on HDR the game switches to borderless mode so the screen will be black, right?

Tried this, didn't work for me. It was toggled on in Windows after i launched the game, but when i alt tabbed back into RDR2, HDR was not enabled in game. Set to full screen and saved, still not enabled. Grrr.

I used custom settings so likely different from yours.

Everything Ultra, except Water Quality to High. Tree Tess off. MSAA/Reflection Off, Vsync and Triple Buffering On.

DX12

Vulkan

Try enabling Vsync and Triple Buffering, seems to help the minimums in Vulkan at least.

I still get better average FPS in DX12.

Yes. So don't lol.
Enable hdr in Windows
Disable hdr in the rdr2 xml file.
Start game
Enable hdr in the game options

Done
Will try that next, i hate not playing in full screen tho Lol.

Followed these instructions exactly, but there is no option in game to enable HDR in the video options.

Back to DX12 i guess for me.

EDIT Switched back to DX12, HDR option appears on next restart. :/

It's in full screen...
Why are you trying to photograph Tin foil?
Just run the game as you normal would but with the hdr set to false in the xml file with hdr set to on, on the windows desktop.
Start the game, set your settings With fullscreen! Then turn on hdr on the game, and play.
I sent you pics on discord, not like the usual ones though. ;)

Haha. :D

See above, I’ve tried those steps it doesn’t work either. No option to enable HDR unless I switch to DX12.

And its on in Windows and fullscreen and then applied first? And still no option like the screen shot I sent you? That's bizarre.

In the xml change window mode to 0
