well this sucks.card had run fine on 3dmark, started up god of War and this happens about 30 seconds after starting first time, after few reinstall drivers manages to get about 3 mins gameplay before happening. temps are fine I think.

Its a fresh install on an all new build, ive updated the mobo bios and windows, reinstalled AMD adrenaline twice using DDU. completely default settings. Card was a B grade offer from OCUK so looks like an RMA..? Any thoughts? no way it still being undervolted etc even with fresh install of Adrenaline and back to defaults?

The only other thing is could it be PSU power? I have a toughpower gold 850W and have connected 3 different 6+2 pin cables from it to the GPU not wanting to use the daisychain part, I thought this would be the best way to go...?

That's the correct way to connect the power cables. Default the tuning settings and retest God of War.

thanks, yep everything back at default still doing it. Im getting a "critical " Kernel power" error in event viewer that i saw mentioned somewhere which i think are same time as the crashes.

I'd double check all the 8 pin cables are fully seated. There's a list a mile long of things that could cause it. Do you have any other OC running like CPU or ram?
One thing to check is in your windows power plan, PCI Express/Link State Power Management. Make sure it's set to off.

thanks for your help. Yeah gonna have to go bit by bit and pull apart/ put back together again. cheers.

Just some things you may or may not have done.
- Clear CMOS then load optimised defaults, and then XMP / DOCP memory settings in BIOS.
- Install latest chipset drivers.
- Stress test the CPU and RAM, RDNA cards seem to be very sensitive to memory instabilities.

Thanks, yeah done all but stress test the ram n CPU. Is there a quicker way than memtest!? I set ram in bios to 3200mhz as have the the group 32gb ddr4 3200 pack, it had been defaulted to lower mhz and this may have given some extra stability before it still crashes.

It weird, if I try any clock changes or volt it works on stress tests but crashes on game load. Stress test say it's only pulling 280w or so and temps fine.
One thing is spec for red devil says boost mode clock is 2340MHz but on default stress tests it goes upto 2550mhz.?

If keep default gpu it runs game for 5 or 10mins, crashes when I try amd overlay or to switch to windows or any shock to it I guess.

Reseated the GPU and all PSU cables and toughpower 850w has 70amps across 12v so should be plenty for 300 to 400w. Some say changing for a 1000w PSU solved their issues .

Brand new build with fresh windows and installed drivers, chipsets and mobo.

At this point I'm thinking either it's spiking a huge PSU draw and 850 isn't enough ( powercolor rec 900w ) or it's a faulty b grade item. Gonna give ocul a call tomoz.
I found before like 6 yrs ago I bought a b grade GPU and that didn't even post...

I would recommend OCCT as a stress testing suite it has seperate configurable stress tests for CPU, RAM and GPU including VRAM as well as an overall system stability test. I'd recommend running each test for at least 3 hours. I would make sure the CPU and Ram are stable before moving onto the GPU and VRAM and if it does show an issue with the card this would be solid evidence.

Returning the card will be a PITA especially if you don't have something else to use whilst OCUK have it on their test bench and try to replicate the issue and if they can't they will just send the card back to you. So I would try everything you can at your end before you go that route. But make sure you fully document everything you've done and get some videos especially if you are reliably able to replicate the issue so that if you do need to return it they know what to try.

Can you borrow a PSU from a friend or install and test your card In a friends system. Another option is the well-known rainforest place has a decent no quibble returns policy so you could order yourself an upgrade and if it turns out not to fix the problem return it.

Give "Windows Memory Diagnostic" a run. That will tell you if your ram is faulty.

@fryups try Furmark or msi composter. They put a huge load on the gpu and very little on anything else. Leave it running for 10 mins monitor with hw info. Do you have access to another card as that would be worth a try aswell

Proud new owner of an ASRock OC Extreme Formula 6900XT. I couldn't resist the price OCUK were selling it for, and hopefully I can pass on the trustworthy 6700XT and get a little money back. I didn't feel the time was right to jump to the latest and greatest range, so I'm hoping to get 2-3 years out of this. Ordered very late Thursday eveing and it arrived today. Thanks @Gibbo and team!

Some pics. This thing is a beast but probably one of the best looking cards I've personally owned. I'm running it with the switch set to "Performance", not planning on overclocking, but I will undervolt and skim some GPU clock speed to try and get a nice balance of power draw, heat and performance. :)

What do you guys suggest for the GPU/MEM frequency in Adrenalin? The official specs are GPU Clock P BIOS(Boost/Game): Up to 2475/ Up to 2295 MHz. But Adrenalin shows the GPU max clock as 2619Mhz and Memory as 2000Mhz. If I change the numbers to the manufacturer spec, it says that the GPU is now running at 95% and the Memory as 115%. I am right in using the official spec figures here?

2122Mhz is normally fine for Vram with fast timings.
2619Mhz default clock is very nice. Depends if you want to save power or go for max performance with your clocks?

I fired up NFS Unbound and had artifacts then it crashed. I think I misinterpruted the ASRock spec.

Clock: GPU / Memory
GPU Clock P BIOS(Boost/Game): Up to 2475/ Up to 2295 MHz
GPU Clock Q BIOS(Boost/Game): Up to 2365/ Up to 2165 MHz
Base Clock: 2125 MHz

I read that as per the bold title, first firgure is GPU and second is MEM. But I think actually, it's first figure is Boost GPU and second is Game GPU. The base clock I guess is the MEM speed. So I might try 2125Mhz instead of 2295Mhz. Oops! :) Yeah I'm happy enough to use 2475Mhz for GPU and not 2619Mhz. I'm not looking for max performance here. :)

None of that is to do with vram.
Your vram is 2000Mhz default (16Gbps) (2000x8)

Aye thanks @Chud_Jenny I've had a nightmare this afternoon with figures haha. More coffee required. :) You are of course, 100% correct. I've actually left the memory at 2125Mhz. A nice little 5-6% OC, and it's behaving just fine so I'll leave it. Thanks for confirming for me!

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Radeon RX 6900 XT.

No I didn't want to draw too much wattage so I've actually set it to - 5% and took 50mv off the voltage. It's drawing 200-220w under load when gaming at full gpu utilisation. Still hitting the clock speeds as well.
How's it been on the temps. I received mine mid Dec I think but was finding on Performance BIOS (default) and out of the box settings it was hitting 110 and above on the hot spot quickly running Far Cry 6 or after 1 or 2 runs on 3D Mark which was obviously throttling the card. Running an RM850X with three seperate PCI-e cables. Had to switch to Quiet BIOS which kept the temps (Hot Spot) around 100 but not had much chance to mess about it over the last fortnight with xmas and in the middle of adding new mobo and CPU to the system. Got all that sorted with a fresh Windows 11 install over the weekend, so tonight I'm going to have another try tonight but surely temps like that aren't normal running standard settings. I did try undervolting and altering the default fan curve (what a pile of crap that is) but surely you shouldn't have to do that running default settings on default clocks. Case temps and CPU temps have been fine and this is without the side panel on, just not sure if there's a problem with the card, especially seeing the problems with heat regarding the 7900 series.
