The Radeon RX 7900 XT(X) Owners Thread.

Has anyone successfully undervolted the XTX (Sapphire Nitro)? Need a comparison on power draw (and perf loss) with the XT version if possible.

Where do they conjure up these naming schemes from lately? GameRock Midnight Kaleidoscope!
I was just looking at the Gamerock line-up and chuckling at the same. It can't just be the "Obsidian" (which would be a great name in itself): it needs to be the "Omni Obsidian"... Meaning obsidian all over? Or my favorite, the "Dazzling Angel". I can appreciate the uniqueness of the "bling" design, naming is just so awkward and clumsy.

Talking about the junction temp issues, i only see it hit 110'c if i allow the board 15% more power and i leave the voltage alone, with an under-volt i can just about keep it below 110'c everything else being equal. I plan on putting a water-block on it but im mindful that i will eventually sell it on to part fund an upgrade, so if there is a recall do you thinbk id be able to just request a new cooler as my old GPU went to a new home yesterday.

Nop, it will just turn into an RMA.

i use afterburner and limit my xtx to 2500mhz powerlimit is default and card is vertical, i have repasted and my card is behaving, core temps 56 and junction is around 80 degrees, if i let the card boost to 2900mhz then tempratures go nuts, 65 degrees for the core but junction gets to 110c in seconds under load :(

I was thinking of doing something along those lines as I could almost certainly jury rig a decent cooler from the Arctics and mem heatsinks I have lying around until a good block is available. That said, I'd need to sell this thing in likely a few months when the refresh comes along: I need a working stock cooler because, after all, it's what I paid for.

So it's not just drivers you get to beta test for £1000, it's also the thermal solution.

Just terrible - AMD should have delayed for another month or two, fixed all the driver issues, fixed the delta temperature difference. Instead they have genuinely bad PR news that'll follow the 7900 range for the next two years, giving Nvidia further support/mindshare.
Sounds like a manufacturing defect, probably some of the dud chambers made it past QC and into the final products. With the covid shutdowns in China over the last few months, I wouldn't be surprised if factories were purposely doing this to make as much money as possible. Then again who knows unless they cut open some of those faulty chambers and see if they're any different. The overall core temps seem okay at around 70C, it's only the hotspot that shoots up to 110C quickly, that seems a bit weird to me. You wouldn't really expect such a massive delta between the the temps within the die itself.

They're aimed at the far eastern market where English sounding words will sell them. Most don't know what they mean and don't care but so long as they sound right they're happy.

Once heard a story of a japanese lad who had the words "S*itty Boy" emblazoned across his t-shirt. He didn't have a clue and frankly couldn't be happier.

What Derbauer needed to do was put a known working cooler onto a suspected faulty gpu+pcb and see if it fixed the issue with that pcb+gpu.

Sounds plausible, I think that's where cream of some young guy came from. :p

Mine has been doing this for a long time with my 6900 XT and now my 7900 XTX. No idea why it does this, it’s quite annoying.
It's always been the same, unsure why they refuse to fix this. Best way to work around it is to set an overclock for each game profile, then you'll get the settings to work in the games that you want to. Bit of a nut-ache but seems to work.
