The Rainforest Tablet

If the rumours are true regarding it being a modified honeycomb platform, it won't take long before a) someone has got the market onto it, and b) someone has cooked a ROM for it.

Yeah, it'll happen eventually, and $199 is certainly cheap enough, question is how long, if they've disabled/hidden/made-it-awkward to 'side-load' stuff (eg the market), and/or locked down the bootloader that could make it a while...

But then they may leave it wide open, who knows :p

Ohh, interested in kindle at that price. Not buying an expensive ebook due to having iPad. But if kindle is cheap enough say £50ish then I could see me getting one.

Indeed, was a bit surprising, very tempted at the $79/99 ones, don't see the point in paying $50 for 3G really :p

Kindle (e-ink refresh line)

• $79usd Kindle - with hardware buttons (not qwerty, just directional, standby and home), no touch features
• $99usd Kindle Touch - with Wifi
• $149usd Kindle Touch 3G - with Wifi + 3G

==== Edit ====

The prices listed above are for their "ad-supported" versions, an option that UK users do not get. Their ad-free versions are $109usd, $139usd and $189usd. Conversion + 20% VAT puts it at £84, £107 and £146. The last two prices are moot for now since we are currently only getting the base non-touch model at £89.

==== End of Edit ====

On straight conversion + 20% VAT it comes out at £61, £76 and £115. No doubt there's going to be some extra UK "special" tax added on top of that.

Kindle-Fire

Comes in at $199usd so roughly £154 (once again, after straight conversion + 20% VAT)

Will have to wait for official UK pricing when announced later this year or early next, along with the Kindle Touch.

That sounds fine to me, just need to know screen size and price. £70 is to high IMO. £60 acceptable, £50 bargain.

The Kindle Fire is an interesting item.
7" Android tablet - customised to Amazon yes, but can still run any Apps you throw at it and you know somebody will root it soon after release if you "must" have access to the OS.

I wouldn't buy one as a replacement E-Reader, I have a Sony PRS-650 and I've got no intention of getting rid of that.
E-Ink is just so much nicer for reading text.

But as a "multimedia tablet" the Fire has a lot of things going for it.
Will now wait for the full reviews to come out.

Try £90 total rip, I can afford lots of things, but it's not justifiable. I have an iPad which I read books on. Kindle has it's advantages but only if cheap enough.

Yeah as you already have something you can read books on it wouldn't be a necessary purchase.

Although it does have it's advantages over the iPad, such as mobility and the arguably better screen for reading.

I think if you don't have an existing tablet or e-reader then this would be a bit of a no brainer really.

[EDIT]Just noticed on that one they lowered the storage space compared to the old Kindle; why do that when memory is cheap :confused:
