Cd projekt red says the new expansion for Cyberpunk is very CPU heavy, they recommend a minimum of 8 cores and users should expect an 8 core CPU to run at almost 100% load. They recommend users go ahead and run Cinebench multi core test on their PC to make sure their system is stable with the CPU going at full load because that's what it will be doing playing Cyberpunk

"Game stable" bros about to get a reality check.

AMD are at least 2 generations behind in ray tracing efficiency, so that's to be expected, especially from a GPU as powerful as a 4090 which can essentially path trace at over 60fps without frame gen and only 1440p upscaling enabled.

Qualcomm and Samsung already have chips with RT hardware. Much like the console and pc space we all eagerly await the developers to start using the hardware properly and not for tick box or tech demo purposes.

Yup all chipset manufacturers have had hardware ray tracing since last year. There have been a few mobile games shown to be using ray tracing.

Yes last year Samsung introduced RT to the Galaxy S23 launch in collaboration with Epic Games and other partners:

But because Apple has now invented it, expect to see developers actually release games and stuff with it.

Must have taken lots of courage!

I bet Apple HQ has a special room the employees go to called the "Smelling Empowerment Emporium™"... a sealed room with a gas mask and sphincter attachment so they can huff in their own farts while reciting a mantra carved into the wall "So stunning, So brave, So courageous".

Spiderman 2 on PC should be rather good then, the PS5 version (exclusive for now...) has RT enabled and there is no mode where RT can be turned off.

Now where are the "RT is just a gimmick" crowd :p - Best hope AMD have something in the works to improve RT performance through drivers!

If it runs on the PS5 in performance mode I wouldn't be expecting much from it. Isn't that essentially what used to be called gimped or lite RT in AMD sponsored games?

Probably heavily use DRS/VRS on PS5 though to make RT run in performance mode, so naturally you'd expect superior image clarity on PC either way.

Only a matter of time until RT will be forced on all the time in all games ;)

Great news though as evidenced and documented so many times before especially by 4a enhanced when they redid metro, to get the very best from RT from not just an IQ pov but also performance pov, you have to change up your workflow and be focussed on RT only rather than trying to support both raster and then tacking on RT.

Spiderman was very good for its RT usage, yes it was "lite" mode but it was used well where it mattered i.e. reflections but of course some things had to be held back in terms of draw distance, resolution. I suspect much the same will happen here and then the PC version when it inevitably arrives will get the increased resolution, extra RT effects and so on.

Yea AMD need to improve there RT for a game that runs exclusively on there hardware. Makes sense to me. Much like tesselation AMD will improve there RT when it's mainstream and matters more. In the main most RT games run ok on AMD hardware. Cyberpunk is the main outlier at high levels of RT but that games become a Nvidia showcase.

At 1440p the 7900xt i have is overall 15% slower in RT compared to the competing 4070ti, so it's slower but when RT levels are kept to sensible level's like in Spiderman remastered the 7900xt is slightly ahead of the 4070ti at 1440p and 4k

The really important thing is surely that if RT cannot be turned off, then this game cannot be a half-half game with raster lighting and RT lighting neither of which get the full attention they need.

As someone who doesn't sit in a cave with a HDR OLED set to max 1200 NIT, I do always worry about realistic lighting. I play games for fun, a realistic 95% black screen doesn't appeal to me!

That's just RT reflections and maybe shadows though, there is much more to RT to drastically improve a game's lighting system, like RTGI, ok Cyberpunk isn't a great example of that because they did the baked lighting system so well, but look at other games like Witcher Next Gen, the RTGI vs screen space GI in that is essentially night and day. Of course a huge fps penalty for the most part, but the visual difference is massive.

RT reflections and shadows are arguably the easiest things to apply RT to without having a massive fps cost applied to them. YOu can try it in Cyberpunk, max out RT and look at the fps, then turn off RT reflections and shadows and note the fps difference.

I did a quick test just now actualy and can confirm that RT reflections, RT shadows and RT sun shadows makes zero difference to framerates as they are effectively low complexity and low GPU load effects,, it's the RT lighting (RTGI) that has the massive impact.
