That's quite a poor take. If AMD didn't make FSR3 or didn't make it open source then you would be straight out of luck. They deserve all the thanks. I expect FSR upscaling to be improved fairly soon too as they focus on better quality now that frame gen has been sorted.
Yes we have amd to thank for providing an OSS but it's only been made usable/relevant (speaking as a RTX gpu owner) because of modders.
If we're just looking at amds FSR 3 official integrations, I won't/can't use it, based on what we have so far:
- only in 3 games, 2 of which are absolute **** and they don't really require frame gen (at least not on a 3080)
- it renders vrr somewhat pointless unless you are locked to a FPS therefore, can't use it, even in avatar (which is the best official version we have so far) it's a worse experience than native fluctuating fps on a vrr display
- it's locked to having to use AMDs FSR upscaling which is a complete no for me due to all the IQ issues with FSR upscaling so again, can't use it
So yes we have amd to thank but it's the modders who have made it "usable/relevant" by it being a better experience (not sure if that is down to them and their tweaks or/and because of the way it is being hooked into nvidias frame gen, a bit like with how the modded in FSR upscaling piggy backing of DLSS can look better than the official FSR implementation).
As shown by Alex, Daniel Owen etc. amds frame gen isn't quite there yet so I wouldn't say it's been sorted, no doubt it has been improved significantly though. I really do hope they improve the upscaling quality as it is one of the main reasons why I'll never go back to amd but alas it isn't going to happen unless amd change how fsr is integrated (i.e. where devs don't have to spend ages fine tuning it to even get remotely usable results), that and we have been hearing how each version is even better every time even though the end result is still the same, that and the lesser presets and at lower resolutions is where FSR falls apart significantly so unless something changes drastically with how FSR is done, I can't see it improving any time soon.
