The RTX 2080 pre-order thread

I'm all for criticising this release. But this is not the thread for it. This is for people who have actually pre-ordered or are considering pre-ordering the cards.

Come on guys. Play the game properly.

My scene? Oh no, I won't be buying one. Irrespective of the pricing, i wouldn't be pre-ordering anything without more information. I'd rather nVidia didn't include the RTX or tensor cores and just went balls to the wall and filled that thing with shaders but alas that hasnt happened. The RTX GPUS seem to be in this weird space where half the gpu core is 'wasted' on stuff that doesnt need to be there and consumers will pay for that - not unlike intel artificially restricting consumer CPU core counts by filling the rest of the die with GPU shaders when we all knew we wanted moAr Corez!. Well, until ryzen came and blew everything apart.

Still, though, I wouldn't try to stop anybody else spending their hard earned readies on the cards and I'm looking forward to the benchmarks and despite nVidia questionable timing in regards to RTX, i'm looking forward to ray tracing finally getting off the ground and will be watching it closely. Let's face it, it's still exciting when new cards are released whether people agree with the pricing or not :)

Probably only slighly faster the the 1080ti and given that the 2080ti hit 30 fps at 1080p using RT what hope has the 2080? So it has a feature that might not be usable.

It's the Consumer Contracts Regulations now.

And if you open and use the card a deduction can be made if the value of the goods has been reduced as a result of you handling the goods more than was necessary.

Because unless you have never checked hardware has month delays otherwise, it’s already nearly showing as November in the U.K. from NV direct.

People want the new product when it’s out, not sure how that’s difficult to understand particularly after recent shortages...

It's a GPU, how else can you test it by opening the box and plugging it up to your system. I'm not sure how much more you would need to handle it.

Opening the box, plugging it and and booting up is fine. Overclocking it, benching for 48 hours or dropping 30 hours game time on the thing is probably what qualifies as "handling the goods more than necessary".

But then again, when does logic ever apply to warranties and returns?

Well a proper test is testing for quite a few hours and seeing if it is ok. If performance doesn't come up to par, it isn't performing as expected and you would be entitled to a refund.
