The RTX 2080 pre-order thread

Mate, I am certainly not a keyboard warrior and found your post a bit silly. Comparing a car purchase to buying a GPU??? You see where I am coming from?

You're just being pedantic :P

I could have related it to any number of things... a tv, a microwave oven, a washing machine. I chose a car because generally people don't change perfectly good cars because they NEED to.

My point was that some people are claiming they NEED to buy one of these new cards, like the one they have at the moment stopped working at 5pm BST on 20th Aug 2018.

What I'm sure they mean is they WANT a new card. For bragging rights, snobbery, willy waving or whatever reason. Claiming it's for better performance is a guess because we don't know those figures yet (for certain).

Anyway, that was my point, albeit exaggerated for effect. Just because something new comes along, doesn't suddenly mean they have to buy it. Especially people with 1080ti and the other high end stuff, they still work fine :P

I also get the feeling the 20 series will get a price drop as soon as the remaining 10s are gone. Probably before Xmas. Unless crazed groupies keep throwing their panties (and wallets) at JSH :D

You legally own the car, you pay the same money regardless, many deals are 0%. £40k car, keep the £40k, pay the same value over time, use £30k to convert my loft, increased value of house by £50k, when the balloon comes more like £70k.

It’s really a smart thing to do with the size of contributions and tiny or non aprs. ;)

You are expecting your house to rise 40% in value over three years?

You obviously don’t know anything about the car industry. Ironically, when talking about the high end at least.

1) I don’t think Greg is claiming he really needs anything.

2) Stop projecting your bitterness. You’ve come into a thread specifically regarding and for people who want to or have ordered already.

I’m sorry but if you pre-order a card with no idea of performance you are an absolute moron.

That rule goes for any graphics card from any company.

Is that bigger or smaller than the moron who doesn’t know how preorders work?

I have pre-ordered a Gigabyte RTX 2080Ti.
Some people buy £1000 CPU's for a specific task/program also, i see no difference in doing the same with a graphics card.

I am of the old school where 30FPS+ stable was a dream scenario in gaming. Back in 1998 when you put 2x Voodo2 8MB in SLI and finally could game at 1024x768 16bit with 30FPS in MS Combat Flight Simulator in 1998. Then the TNT revolution came and I got a Riva TNT2 32MB and now the game could be played in full 32bit colour at even the same frame rate ! Insane .
So if I can play Shadow of the Tombraider in 1920x1080 40FPS average with Ray Tracing, I will be very happy.

I think we are a little spoiled today demanding 60FPS+ in everything, and anything under is unplayable.

True, but the baseline has been set now. Everything is 60fps+ this, 144Hz refresh that, G-/Free/Adaptive Sync the other, VR at 90fps on top, so then when a brand new graphics card with fancy new technology is released that is seemingly unable to even reach that baseline, yet command over a thousand pounds for the privilege, then it's a very bad show indeed.

Technology is not supposed to regress.

@Gibbo Can we get a bit of a stock update/round up on when to expect things? Wondering whats sold over stock expectations, what hasnt and when to expect the slow ones like EVGA?

Cheers bud!
