The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Hi there - wondering if someone can help - sorry if this is a silly question but how do i make the overclock stick.

I use custom > set HBM2 to 1075 > set GPU to 2% > set power to 100% and apply. Works fine but when i reboot it goes back to defaults - any advice appreciated...

Many thanks
Joe
What are you using, try wattman in the driver software.
If you are using afterburner you have to make it apply the settings at startup I think there is a button.

Sorry to hear that dude. Hope you have better luck with the 1080. I would have gone that route myself but couldn't justify the extra £300 on a monitor for gsync and no hdr.

+1, absolutely loving my Vega 64 LC, quiet, runs cool, freesync is stunning and a complete nobrainer if you have a freesync monitor ready to go.

For what it's worth 17.9.3 is out. http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-art...mson-ReLive-Edition-17.9.3-Release-Notes.aspx. A couple of fixes and a couple of profiles wow. Stunning work driver team. Where's the fixes for all the broken features in Vega? Is that really too much to ask for you to fix them? Really. Please can I have the card I thought I'd paid for or is that not possible? Wattman doesn't work properly and still no DSBR. Getting these sorted first that should be their absolute priority not game profiles. Also can't they make the fans just idle at desktop or is that too much to ask. IMHO Vega has been the most disastrous launch of a graphics card in history. Even MSI and Gigabyte have give up on producing an AIB board. I wonder what Sapphire and Powercolor are thinking as they only produce AMD cards? No wonder Raja is on a 'leave of absence'.

Nvidia are just wiping the floor with AMD at the moment, it seems that the 1070ti is eclipsing the Vega with no custom cards etc.
I really hope that the next generation they pull something special out of the hat and smash Nvidia

I'm hoping Nvidia kick them in the nuts while they're down and starts supporting adaptive sync with Volta.

It certainly isn't when they want around £800 for a Vega AIO which is more than a 1080ti costs, Then you need to factor in the new PSU that many of us would also need to power it. I ended up returning my Vega AIO and PSU and out of the £930 refund I used just £500 to buy the 1080 I'm now using with my Freesync panel and the gaming's no worse than it was with my Fury so Freesync's not worth the cost extra, not by a long shot.

Loving mine as well, but I did manage to get it at launch price, I certainly wouldn't have paid £800 for it for sure!

Having a freesync monitor did cement the deal for me, if nvidia supported freesync I probably would have bought a 1080ti

As far as performance gains go my timespy graphics score has increased by ~6% since the launch day drivers when run at balanced mode, but I think there is a lot left in the tank that can be unlocked with drivers, hopefully if some smaller vega GPUs are released to replace the 5xx series then we might start to see more improvements in future.

So you should have kept your Fury is what you are saying.

Now i hit a wall :(. I did a clean win 10 install with all the c++ redistributables and DirectX Runtime and every update there is with the the latest 17.9.3 amd driver and now i cant even get DirectX 12 or OpenGL to run without crashing even with the 17.8.1 driver. Interestingly, as was mentioned to me by someone in guru3d forums, if i turn down the power level all the way down everything is stable while suffering a HUGE performance drop. Never have i had such a frustrating issue with any of my video cards i have previously owned (as they always have been NVIDIA cards since GeForce 4Ti 4400 and this is my first experience with AMD/ATI Hardware), and its getting to the point where I'm ready to pop my ASUS 960GTX STRIX back in my rig and tell AMD to SHOVE IT ....

Any suggestions?

i presume the card wasn't covered by alphacool? was going to get one of these but got doubts now.
It wasn't, but i did get the card replaced.

Alphacool didn't know what the issue was with the cooler, i sent it back and assumed they would check it over.. but they just basically said they didn't know if it was compatible with my card. Not a very useful response to be honest. It must have been air or something, i mean the pump was operating and everything but temperatures were just going all over the place, constant up & down, and just shot through the roof when doing a quick test. And it was making contact with the GPU core because i checked to make sure.

Stuck with just the 240mm radiator now and no cooler, not sure if I'll buy another to try again.

thanks for the info, doesn't sound good on alphacools part to be fair, think il give it a miss in that case; if the support was there they i might of brought one.

What PSU have you got? I upgraded to a V64 and I was getting crashes, sometimes in games, sometimes just browsing the web. I swapped out my PSU and it's working perfectly now.

i have corsair hx850, but i have a backup 750watt corsair i was going to try tonight after work as was suggested to me that my current PSU might not able to keep consistent current/amperage flow. so if i get some success i might have to get a 1000-1200 watt psu. But hearing that u had similar problem that was resolved by PSU swap gives me hope, because I REALLY WANT THIS CARD TO WORK. Thank you:)

just buy anything other than corsair ..my experience is there rails are all over the shop .. 3 in a row where the 12v would drop to 11v

Hmm.... good to know, i didn't know that about corsair... alway thought they were dominant in PSU and memory fields.... i will take that into consideration, thank you
they try to dominate by pushing so much product into the market and securing corsair only retailers ..

try this .. when they put a 10 yr warranty on it they mean it ..
mine went after 2 but I was pushing it pumpsx2 fans x13 overclocked 8350 and 290 and dust
4 days later new one at the door ..

Yup, ive said it before, not going Nvidia just because of FreeSync is madness, as Nvidia cards work just fine on FreeSync screens, who cares if you'll lose FreeSync, ive got FreeSync, and id use a Nvidia card still, it just wouldn't bother me losing it, as i gamed for many years without FreeSync when it wasn't invented, so i can do again.

I just don't get how some are willing to go on for years, turning their graphics settings down, and even skipping games altogether, saying Nvidia is not an option, they have to wait, got no choice, however many years it will take, for them to release another card, all because they have FreeSync, madness.
