The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

@GoogalyMoogaly

I agree Pascal has been out for ~16mths, so easier for them. It just seems each time there is more variation on offer on green team than red team. Plenty of AMD owners think that from what I have come across on forums.

I believe the revision shown in GPU-Z is not "true" ASIC revision. When recently Nashadog discussed that I posted how that can change with simple bios flash for an owner.

What is dodgy about the C0 edition cores?
Yes, here at these very forums there does seem to be a surprisingly high number of people who bought Vega64 LC but returned it.
Even I was at the point of returning mine, but after (I forget which version) a driver update, all the crashing at stock levels (ie Balanced and Turbo) just stopped.
I then swapped out the grinding fan with a much quieter Gentle Typhoon model (cba with a RMA that could take months over a grinding fan) and this card is now soooo damned quiet and the paragon of stability.

Would I prefer a C1 stepped core in my rig? Sure!
But what would it get me that my C0 doesn't? AFAIK, AMD have not made the difference between the two editions public so it's just speculation.

Don't you start as well, that was something Nashadog came up with, based on a comment that random guy posted below a website article. It was also based off Videocardz article saying Gigabyte weren't going to supply AIB cards. Gigabyte themselves came out and squashed that rumour. The last word from Gigabyte themselves, is that they only recently got delivery of chips from AMD at the beginning of October. When AIB cards will appear is anybody's guess.

It was based on a number of things and I formed it before that article all that did was add to it, But as I've said to you previously it's only an opinion, we are still allowed to have them aren't we?

Fair enough, it sounded like C1 was an improvement over C0 and I thought Asus had a C0 in the Strix that was getting reviewed, not sure where I got that from though.

It's nothing more than a working theory I came up with, I still think it's right but I've never claimed to have insider info or anything else it just makes sense when you put all the pieces together and look at it objectively.
I'm not a fan boy trying to discredit AMD, I've actually favoured AMD over the last few years and I'm sat here now with a Ryzen/Polaris build waiting for a non-reference Vega card to run my Freesync monitor so I haven't got ulterior motives
just an opinion that I shared on this forum.
I initially bought an AIO but it was returned because I was unable to get it too run stable with a new 850 watt Platinum PSU which I was told should be more than enough but wasn't.
I'm sat here with my finger hovering over the air reference card today as it's discounted but the recent rumour of a late October early November AIB release is stopping me.
As for the Vega Strix all I did was point out that neither review mentioned what revision was in it, I even posted on both review sites asking which was used but got no reply.

Sure, but, people are allowed to challenge opinions too. And having an opinion is fine. But, you weren't just an opinion, you were writing it down as fact. You completely made up the bit about AMD supplying AIBs with dodgy chips. Having an opinion is fine, but, making claims with zero evidence to support is just asking for people to argue with you.

Your whole initial premise was wrong, so how can the rest of your working theory have any basis in reality?

As for challenging an opinion that's what forums thrive on so yes doing so is good as it leads to debates that are often interesting and informative, what isn't good is using what isn't a fact as one. I've never claimed what I said was a fact, I tend to point out that it's not but if you can show me where I've done that please do.

Isn't it telling we've got 1070ti aibs before vega?

There's obviously something wrong somewhere...

Hardly. When you really think about it, 10 series have been on the market much longer than vega.. All afterboard partners need to do is reuse the same coolers... 1060 to 1080ti is the same. No wonder it's out faster/day one

No excuse from me though something is clearly up with Vega and AIB.. I think it's prices, cost to manufacture and the market GPU segment is bloody stupid atm

It's definitely disappointing.

There's not usually this big a delay between reference only releases and non reference models, especially without teasers from the AMD only brands like Sapphire and Powercolor.

I think I might just grab a blower card, I'm now using the Corsair Air 240 MATX cube case and while the length and how many slots it uses are not an issue how high it is does matter. I've currently got a 650watt gold rated EVGA G2 psu and need to factor in how much more wattage I need.

Football manager.
I hear my gpu scream as if it's producing loads and loads of frames, maxes out my card.

I can live with it, but it's annoying.

Got ya, You should put a ticket in with AMD's driver support, They've been doing a good job over the last couple of years.

Got a ThreadRipper to feed too, so a Corsair AX1200i

Should note I've see core wattage reach 320W+ quite easily using LC BIOS on my Air Card at stock LC Clocks. Assuming around 40-60W more for full card draw and you are pushing 400W actual quite quickly.

Try using the Frame Limit in Radeon Settings. Solves most of those 4000FPS menu moments for me.
