The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Oh man, that sucks. And just before Christmas too. Sorry that it happened to you. I would be raging right now. And you have nothing now? No computer? No monitor? Cleaned out your whole apartment? What are you going to do for xmas? Stories like these make me so depressed and angry.

Are you in the UK?
Well i cant rage at anyone but myself for not getting the renters insurance. And there is no reason to get depressed as it will only set me down the spiral. I have started with nothing before and I'm sure its not going to be the last time. As someone told me before "You can only move one way from the bottom and that's to the top"

no im in US

Well it looks like I will never find out whether it was my PSU or not as someone broke in my house yesterday and took everything. The chances of me being able to start from scratch and being able to afford another Vega 64 at current prices are slim to none. I guess it R.I.P. my poor poor Vega for me :(
FS mate. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it turns out to be one of those situations that's bad at the time but ultimately leads to better things...

Hope the scumbags get caught!.

Whoops.

I know, That's really annoying, I just phoned the place with the V64 Nitro at £630 to get a likely stock date and they said somewhere from the 29th of Dec to the middle of January so I thought sod it and grabbed one here, I've gotta buy a Meccano set next to mod my case for it, I already got the pci-e riser a few weeks back.

Hope it works ok for you nash.

Sorry to hear about the break in :( it's a shame you're in the US otherwise I would have sent you something!
thanks, I appreciate the gesture.

Thanks, Im hoping so too

Thanks, they probably will not but there is always a chance that they will so i have my fingers crossed.

True, but very unlikely. I live in PG County Maryland, and the cops around here have so much going on that a break-in like this is less likely to be dealt with with precision. But i amd holding my fingers crossed because i have spent most of my savings on my Desktop, i dont even care if they dont find my $1500 gaming MSI laptop. Just retun my watercooled ryzen+vega system i have dedicated so much money and time on. :(

Maryland? That's not where my Mum lives.

In all seriousness though, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Ouch! That's awful. Even if you had insurance you'd still feel grief over time & effort lost on your rig.

On the bright side you can pick up pretty good 2nd hand tech for cheap to tide you over until RAM & SSD prices become reasonable again.

Hope you find a safe place to stay and preferably not at my mum's house.

I've had a look and can't find any articles but does anyone have any good info on why cards boost to certain frequencies for certain games eg why no matter what voltage, power limit and frequency combo I set to p6 and p7 my card will boost to say 1680 in rottr but at those same settings only hit 1640 in the witcher 3. It's not power limit as I've tried many different voltages where consumption hits only 250W on Vega Liquid. It's like the only difference between 1752 at 1250mv and 1650mhz at 1100mv on the witcher is it uses 100 less watts but frequency stays at 1640mhz Max boost

What Cpu do you have is it possible its holding it back?

I would like to know also abou this as my card misbehaves in regards to this, i will leave the LC bios clocks at stock but suddenly in a game is will go over the 1752 that is set and crash itself.

When i look at the time graph i can see how its gone for say an hour, for 1712, 1717, 1722 and then suddenly 1783 and then the line drops down to 500 where it has crashed....

Has anyone else had this, or know how to solve it? as it means i can only run the card on the balanced setting or if custom, with really low volts to stop it going above 1600mhz, which is terrible for the Lc bios.

What card do you have? Could it be thermal throttling i.e it doesnt go higher due to it being at 70-80.c ?

LC Card no it's not thermal throttling I have it underclocked and undervolted to 1135mv enough to keep my average clocks around 1680 because 1250mv is ridiculous just to get another 50mhz it the difference between 370w or 250w which keeps my fan around 1200rpm. But that's not my issue every combination or clocks, voltage and power limit I've tried my card won't go over 1640 for the witcher. It's not an issue I just want to know why without any limiting factors it won't boost higher

Lowering voltage will result in lower core clocks. Best bet is to try these settings and keep maxing out core clocks in 12Mhz increments until you hit instability then back off 12Mhz.

State 6 Core 1702Mhz @ 1105mv.
State 7 Core 1752Mhz @1200mv.
Power Limit +50%
Target Temp 60c, Max 70c.

My first Vega card can go up to 1782Mhz on the core. My second Vega goes up to around 1772Mhz.

Using the settings above should get you a higher core clock in the Witcher 3.

No but it doesn't as I stated I've tried different voltages and clock rates. I've left the P7 clock at 1752 and worked my way in 10mv increments from 1100mv to 1250mv and the clock stays at 1640mhz. I have no issue with this as the Max boost I want is 1700 as that allows me to run at over 100mv down from stock for minimal if not non existent performance loss. I just want to know why without limiting factors like vsync, power limit and thermal limit some games just don't clock as high it's not only the witcher I've observed this in a few games

Do you have an idea of what my problem is matt ?
