The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Just bought a Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 64 Nitro 8GB.
Unfortunately I got some problems that I can't seem to fix.

From the moment I installed it (after DDU the old drivers) the fans on the card been running on max (3000rpm) all the time. Dosnt matter what the temprature is, it still runs on max. Wattman totally just ignore when I try to make changes to fan speed/temperature levels. Same thing with Afterburner.

Any else had these problems? My old 580 everything worked fine with wattman.

I've never seen such a lack of availability on any GPU unless it's EOL and the channel had been cleared (usually at a low price) in readiness for the launch of a replacement SKU. The high pricing is bad enough, but high pricing and no stock? That's just weird. What the hell is AMD's GPU division actually selling right now?

The prices of the V64 cards is insanely stupid, For £100+ less you can get a 1080 Ti with aftermarket cooler which leaves V64 in the dust in general performance by quite a long shot, Power consumption and heat, What the hell are AMD thinking ? This is self sabotage.
Pfft, you could have the same old GPU as everyone else or be a bit more classy and get something slightly more exclusive :p

Do the fans run at full speed from the moment you power on (and in BIOS too)? If so it sounds like a hardware problem. Take a close look at the card to see if the fan cables are properly seated. If you can't get at them without removing warranty stickers, I would start an RMA request and look out for more help in the meantime.

I'm also using the Vega Nitro+ and I tried installed Sapphires Trixx software but it wouldn't let my fans stop, It kept them at about 27% even at idle, and even when Trixx wasn't running so I uninstalled it as I was only looking to see if it included the RGB lighting controls yet which it doesn't so if you have it uninstall it and see if that changes things.

Unless your a miner, any sane person would pick the nvidia card. supply and demand an all that, but price gouging gives you a reputation and when its as obvious as this well that damage is irreversible.

But who's price gouging? The retailers and AMD keep pointing the finger at each other, but the inability to supply has pushed demand upwards on top of everything else.

It's like diamond prices being kept high because only limited quantities dribble out to the market.

This is Sabotage? No this is Sparta! Actually it's Raj's legacy. It's beyond me how he managed to get employed in another high up tech position but that said Intel are overdue some bad luck.

You are probably right. Tried the card on an other computer and had the same problem there aswell. Yeah the fans run on max from the moment I turn it on and in the bios.
A bit strange though, that such a problem can go through the testing of the card? Or do the just ship them out without testing the cards maybe?

If all etailers are doing it then it just reflects badly on AMD (which they are). Not like AMD need any more negative press in regards to their higher end gpu's!

The prices are mostly out of AMD's hands now. There are only custom cards available now. So between Miners buying every card released no matter what the price and mining on the up and up. It's a simple case of supply and demand. People are looking to buy 6 and more cards at a time. Did you read Gibbo's post in the AIB information needed thread? The AIB's have raised their prices massively, and so have the retailers. Why wouldn't they? They are businesses, if people want to buy 6 cards at £800 why would they sell one at £550?

Ah capitalism.

My guess is that the PWM signal (that moderates the fan speed) isn't arriving at the fans. The process of shipping can in rare cases dislodge poorly secured connections. There could be a dry (or fractured) solder joint of the fan connector on the PCB. It's possible for such things not to show up in testing, and certain types of testing might only happen on a limited number of samples in each run.

At least you've encountered the problem while the card is new rather then the usual "just out of warranty".

Ah capitalism.

Indeed. It's awful, but the alternatives somehow manage to turn out worse.

Man this card is so good. Still loving it, this could be the longest I have ever stuck with one GPU. Absolute beast and cost around £460, bout the same cost as a decent GTX 1070. Nothing this gen comes close to value VS performance.

Been on this card for months. Nothing on horizon to be tempted by?

VS the 1080 Ti the value per performance just romps it. GPU space seems a bit meh atm tbh. Vega 64 is just a good balance of price vs performance (Well at what I bought mine for xD)

I won't change until we see the next gen line ups. Rumors are that 1080 replacement is £600+ and 1080 Ti replacement will be £850+ . Not much to be excited by if you value your coin...

Fixed

:eek::eek::eek:

On a serious note I agree that GPU prices will start creeping up a bit.
