The RX Vega 64 Owners Thread

Stick the original cooler back on and give it a shot with powercolor. You have nothing to lose.
From the powercolor website:'
Removal and/or damaging of serial number sticker(s) on the back of the product will VOID all warranties. PowerColor products sent in for RMA must be free of any improper use, including but not limited to physical damage from dropping, improper installation, or modification of any kind (this includes installing aftermarket cooling solutions). The warranty WILL BE VOID if the product has been damaged or altered.

I wonder if powercolor would have a look at the card for you and fix if possible. Obviously you would fit the bill. I suggest giving them a call and see if they can do anything for you. The prices of Vega at this moment are not great.

I put all the original cooler back on but as I was doing it i sniffed the gpu and hbm and it smelled burnt around that area, sad day

Oh mate sorry to hear that, really sucks that.

Was it under water that one?

I'll keep an eye open.
Yeah it's been under water for 4 months , the problems started when my psu failed a couple weeks back, it must have damaged my card in the process as with a new psu the pc was shutting off under gpu load.

Now when i woke this morning the pc wouldn't start up unless i took the vega out, deconstructed the card and could smell a sweet electrical burn smell around the chip :(

Damn burning out when under water doesn't sound good at all.

@Illuminist Give me a message on steam mate, I can at the very least lend you something to game on like a rx570 or something. Depending on the damage I might even know somebody that can fix it for you.

Also don't say I didn't warn you that those Eiswolf coolers are utter junk and should under no circumstances be trusted.

+1 to that Vince!

I feel bad as the cooler @Illuminist was using was part mine and part another forum members. My one was basically DOA I tried to fit it loads of time but couldn't seem to control hotspot temps. I couldn't be bothered to send it back so sent it to illuminist, another forum member also sent him another one and out of two he managed to make a working one. Good effort no doubt but from the moment I set eyes on that thing I didn't trust it. The way they couldn't be bothered to pre cut and install the heat pads to the cooler and backplate to prevent the 90 minute install or missing one of the 30 odd pads you need to position, who knows why you even need to position them in the first place as the stock cooler has just a few heat pads. The way the manual is vague in so many areas, I cant remember the wording for this one bit but did read it to a few people to make sure that it wasn't just me that had no clue what it was trying to say.

All of these things didn't instill confidence in the product for me, I am sure there are ones out there working absolutely fine but for my one to turn up with a dead pump had me wondering how good these things are.

Ouch! By the sound of it there might have been some failure of the cooling system - the GPU shouldn't otherwise get hot enough to smell. Also consider that even otherwise pristine electronics can fail within warranty due to manufacturing defects or plain bad luck, so there's a chance it might not have had anything to do with your usage of the card.

I don't think I can give you immediate practical help, only that as graphics card prices are on their way down (new and used) things will hopefully work out in your favour. Also note that even faulty graphics cards have been sold for surprising amounts on ebay, but if that's still the case or for how much longer I don't know. Some type of fault can be economically repaired on expensive items.
