I don't think any Man Utd fan would disagree with Rooney being our best player.
Since the departure of Keane, he's now my favourite player. And they both share similar traits, both born fighters and give 110% every match they play in. I don't think Rooney has ever played this many games without being given a break, that just shows how much Ferguson knows we need him playing every weekend.
Without Rooney, RVN wouldn't have scored as many goals. But the shambles of a midfield behind them makes it much more remarkable that their partnership up front has produced so many goals. Imagine where we would be with a proper midfield, and Park and Ronaldo in form running down both wings. I seriously don't think Chelsea would be that far in front.
I think our success in the nineties will never be repeated, because there are now more than 2 teams who can win the premiership. And I don't think it's possible under 'this' Ferguson to have a team that gels so well now. I think we were quite lucky and blessed to have players like Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, the Nevilles to come through our ranks when they did.
I don't mind Saha in the squad as backup, even then I'm still concerned about his injury proneness. I still sense RVN leaving, if he's reached that point where he can't stand being treated like this anymore, and fed up with Ferguson's tactics and the players he places in the team around him who don't deserve to even draw breath wearing a red shirt, then his mind is made up. The one thing that has kept him here so far is Rooney. And he's not being given the chance to play with him. And for what reason... Saha played well in the Carling Cup. Although there's obviously a lot more to it than the Carling Cup, the other reasons are why I'm certain RVN is going this summer. I want to see Rossi and Bardsley in the first team next season. With Pique on the bench waiting for an opportunity to play, all three of these players are future United stars.
