**The Secret World**

decided to give this game ago, really enjoying it, nice gfx with everything on max and fun gameplay for an mmo. whats everyones fps with tesselation enabled? sometimes (actually most of the time) with 6950 i get sub 25 fps but the game still seems smooth, so im not too bothered allthough havent been in a situation where theres masses amount hapening, so i may have to turn it off a t some point, disabling tesselation i get nearer 60 but the game looks much worse!

Same card and same results, tessellation destroys performance. I can live without it though as the game looks stunning imo!

lifetime sub sounds excessive. Have you tried much pvp? Also we ofc have no idea what any endgame content is like yet (well I don't). I need decent and challenging endgame raiding to enjoy MMO's properly.

If you like it a lot, why not just get a 6 month or years sub, and maybe buy some of the real money vanity gear or something.

Its odd, after so many mmporgs over the past 5 years or so, this is the first game when i am in no rush to get to the "magical endgame" everyone harks on about. Infact from what i have seen so far (upto Egypt atm) endgame doesn't really exist in TSW and that's a good thing.

Besides i have sat myself the challenge of most mummy`s killed on all dimensions :)

Oh and for those that are interested everyone in game gets a page like this.

(that in itself i pretty cool and unique really)

Is it normal to be decked out in QL3 gear and doing missions in the Savage Coast? I seem to have no problem with the missions, just have to pick my fights some times.

Atm, I'm following the Templar Paladin deck; all my points so far have been invested in Blade skills and abilities, is this a bad thing? Do I need stuff in Pistols now, or can it wait until I've gotten the recommended skills for Blade?

I have just got the paladin deck, mainly for the outfit tbh.

I'll post the build i used until i got it, which got me through the New England zones a bit later.

Essentially tho I used a pistol builder and consumer, a blade aoe builder, a blade single target consumer, a stun, and a couple of buffs, one that gave mee a defence increase (with a passive that gave it me a HoT) and a crit chance buff.

i found the paladin deck annoying when soloing as the Elite passive, was an AoE that built a counter and then triggerd and i would often pull extra mobs with it. Probably good in a group, not so good solo.

Your gear level looks fone for SC, as you say just need to pick your fights.

There is no hard and fast rule,

i would stick with one weapon until you can get something on the outer wheel.

Another tip is saving your AP and going back to the training room. There you can try skills out and refund them (just make sure you refund them before you leave the room)

I think it's worth mixing and matching right from the start. Most basic attacks build a resource for each equipped weapon, so you're wasting that if you don't have two equipped, even if you only spend points for one heavy attack in the secondary weapon, it's basically free dps.

I agree with this: I'm duel-wielding fist weapons simply because it builds up hit points (or whatever they're called) so much quicker than 2 different skills.

I use a single target point builder, a big single target hit and a big cone hit point consumers, a big heal (point consumer) and a HOT (stacking) point builder, a stun/silence and a damage buff.

I am using 2, AR and Blade. Great for pulling and also for slowing them down. Also allows you get the harder monsters hp down before they get near to you.

ia lshave a heal on my AR as well as a passive that increase heal. Seems to work well.

Exactly this. Anyone using only 1 weapon at any stage is making an error.

Right after you select your first weapon in whatever training room your faction has, leave, then go back in again and get your second one. You'll have to buy the skills mind, but at least you have the actual weapon.

To be completely clear, every build should have a consumer from 2 weapons - these will both build whilst you're using 1 builder (eg, builder from pistols, resources for both pistols and Blood build). So 1 builder, 2 damage dumps. It's free extra damage, it makes sense :)

/edit: Talking about damaging/tanking builds, not healing builds.

I duel wield though in order to build up resources much faster (2 per swipe) so that i can get a big hit in every 4 combos. If I go fists/chaos although I get 2 resources per hit, one goes for each weapon, rather than 2 in fist resources. I realise that in the end it all adds up to the same resources, its just that since I get 2 per hit in fists, I can get a big hit in much earlier.
I use a passive elite skill from the Chaos tree (or wheel, whatever).

I would prefer using 2 different weapons for a bit of variety, but the dps just isn't anywhere near what I get duel wielding fist weapons.

I'm currently mixing pistol/elementalism/blade and even then still thinking about filling out all of the inner weapon skills just for the extra clothing options. :o

With the repeatable missions I end up finding more lore that I missed out on the first run through and random grouping for no reason other than we're in the same area at the time. :)

It's a shame my friends stopped playing so would be interested in an OcUK cabal if you can join from any server?

After being put off grouping (as a rifle healer) for a week+ by an inferno group I gave it another try today. It was so much better - the guys stuck close to me or the target, moved away from danger zones and generally just knew what they were doing. Still had a copule of group wipes on a couple of bosses though - that dungeon is much tougher than the first one.

I'm glad that bad run turned out to be the group rather than my build. Rifle/blood healing is fun, lots of passive AE trickle heals if people stand near me or the mobs and some nice direct heals. I'll post my build below if anyone's interested.

I'm also interested in the OCUK cabal, not sure if I can join it cross-dimension though? (I'm on Grim).

============================================

The numbers below are with a QL5 rifle and blood magic focus, 200 and 215 weapon power respectively, and include passive bonuses. Healing power increases rifle & blood direct healing, leech effect power, and barrier strength. Blood magic barriers last 10 seconds unless otherwise stated.

PE = Passive Effect, ie. an effect added by my equipped passive skills.

Active Abilities

Rifle
  • Groundwork: 1s cast, no cooldown, builds 1 resource for each weapon (tooltip says it's only rifle resources though). Deals minor AE damage, applies a 1.2% leech effect to friendlies within 5m of the targets.
PE: If friendles already have a leech effect active, Groundwork heals them for 75+.
  • Anima Burst: 1s cast, no cooldown, builds 1 rifle resource. 3-hit attack that heals my friendly target for 110 + ~40% of the damage done (avg. 135 total).
PE: Also applies a DoT and heals friendlies with 5m of me for ~30 when it hits a DoT'd target.
  • Platoon: Instant, 30s cooldown, no resources needed. Heals all group members for about 250. Very long range makes it a great utility heal, I was using it on cooldown if more than 2 people were hurt.
  • Anima Outbreak: Instant, 4s cooldown, consumes all rifle resources. Deals AE damage and heals friendlies for 340+ (with 5 resources).
  • Shot of Anima: Instant, 4s cooldown, consumes all rifle resources.

Blood Magic
  • Blood Shield: Instant, no cooldown, builds 1 blood resource. Heals for ~80 and applies an 80-point damage barrier. It's mainly here to provide some healing capability when I can't shoot anything.
  • Angelic Aegis (AA): 1.5s cast, no cooldown, consumes 3 blood resources. Heals for 300+ and places a 310-point absorb barrier. It can also be used without resources at the expense of placing an 8-second DoT named Blood Offering on yourself.
PE: Heals for an additional 140+ to targets below 50% health.

Passive Abilities

Rifle
  • Anticoagulant: Leech abilities (ie. Anima Burst) apply a 5-second DoT. This is just here to activate the next passive.
  • Leech Therapy: Leech abilities (ie. Anima Burst) heal friendlies within 5m of me for 30-ish. Helps to keep the group topped up when I'm single-target healing.
  • Post-Op: When a leech buff on a friendly target expires, they get healed for 60+. This also applies if the leech buff is renewed before it expires.
  • Improved Groundwork: Heals targets with an active leech buff for "25" (more like 15 in actual use). These two passives are what make Groundwork so great.
  • Experience (elite): Improves all leech effects by 25%. This is due to be replaced by the Veteran passive - only 45 more AP to go! >_>

Blood Magic
  • Rapid Shield: Increases the heal and barrier of Blood Shield by 7.5%
  • Angel's Touch: Angelic Aegis heals an additional 140+ to targets below 50% health.

Areas for improvement: Replace Platoon with something that heals for more (probably Cold-Blooded), replace Experience (elite) passive with Veteran (elite), replace Improved Groundwork passive with something better.

About Blood Offering: Certain blood magic resource consumers can be used without resources at the expense of applying this DoT to yourself.

The more resources you have, the less damage it does eg. using AA with 0 resources will cost you 15% health, using it with 1 resource hurts you less, and using it with 2 resources hurts you even less. Using AA with 3 resources won't activate Blood Offering at all, it'll just use the resources.

If there are any Templar players who would like to join a Cabal, I created one. It was originally for me and a couple of friends, but we've decided to open it up to ocuk members too, because you know, the more the merrier.

Cabal name is Shadow Embassy

Whisper one of these people for an invite:

Jegethy
MaxiLive
Cataya

Probably because chat is so borked :) I'm taking a break until they fix it, too annoying not knowing whether you're being heard or not.
