The Show Off Your Tattoo Thread

Some nice stuff there :)

My latest which will post when healed a bit more....
Viking warrior behind my Thor (forearm), Western Thor's hammer inside of bicep.
Then on the other arm I got a pokeball on my elbow and SSJ2 Goku (outline done, ran out of time) but it's huge and that runs from the side of the pokeball up my upper arm.
Next time I'm getting the sleeve finished and Goku finished and if there is time I'm more than likely going to get something from SAO done.

Dont know whether you have read the last few posts but I'm not getting the text any more.

Shame really. Amazing band, but the name is terrible for any sort of representation on clothing etc.

Glad to see another Tool lover! I had the same dilemma - I didn't want it to not look right, with the word "Tool", so have sort of put that tattoo on the back burner. I was thinking about getting the awesome eye from Aenima done though, and am sort of hinting to the GF that it would make a wicked Christmas present :D

Ok my Goku was done at the weekend... Got one of him bleeding which makes it look like he has been in a fight :) Guess the size of him is around 3/4 bit of a 4 paper tall so gives you a rough guess as to size. Also can't wait for him to heal up so the colors settle in and what not. Have 5-6 weeks off now, next time I'll be getting my biomech/skintear finished which again only just covered my shoulder but on a normal sized person it covers their whole upper back. 40 hours in on my two sleeves and think I have another 25 left.

They apply the paper to the area you want (using some special spray I think) and then peel it off. This transfers the stencil onto the body ready to go over.

Thanks. I don't want one (in fact I opposite of want one) but interested. I had always thought it must be really hard to draw with the gun thing but that makes more sense!

Yea, it's up to you. You can ask for freehand if you want but all my designs have had a crazy amount of line work (other than the pokéball) so it's always good to have them do it from your reference imo.

So do they project the stencil on you and then go over it? Naive question I am sure.

They put the line drawing of the design through a thermo fax machine with a sheet of spirit master thermal transfer paper. This gives them a carbon copy that can be transferred onto the skin with the aid of various bespoke transfer sprays that make the skin more adhesive.

Alternatively the design can be drawn straight on to the skin, usually using either Sharpies or the specially designed Tattoo Pen. This is usually reserved for styles where the design is specifically shaped to the body (i.e. Bio-mechanical).

For some styles, traditional Japanese is a good example, the subject matter (i.e. a Hanya) will be applied with a stencil and the background (Wind-bars/water) will then be drawn on by hand.

There are a few artists who go on straight with a Tattoo machine (the phrase Tattoo-gun is frowned upon) but this is uncommon.

Does anybody know a good artist for pin-up girl tats?

Depends what style. If you want traditional Valerie Vargas is one of the best in the world at girl heads and pinups.
