*** The SKY F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

ITV had it, decided it was too expensive compared to income and asked the BBC to take over. have you only been living in the Uk for 3 years or something?

Nope, of course I watched it on ITV before. I just didn't know the reasons behind them giving it up.

As much as I loved Mansell listening to him on 'time of our lives GP greats' is cringey. All his stuff on how he was injured but refused to get it fixed blah blah.

My god he hams it up.

Can't be worse than Jackie Steward or Niki Lauda?

I enjoyed it and can see it being good, Missing Jake tbh. Replace that Simon guy with Jake and what a show it would be. Was very impressed with Anthony and his use of the touch screen.

Eric Boulier and a technical guy from Force India were on a Sky Sports News preview show along with Johnny Herbert, so it would appear Sky will be able to grab some manager and technical staff for their coverage too.

The Preview show included all the regular presenters and staff, I'm sure there will be endless special guests once the season starts.

And for those still banging the 'Sky is evil' drum please naff off to the BBC thread or just keep it zipped. Your unhappy, we get it, but we don't need to go through it again and end up with this thread closed like the last one.

Ok, I dare say it - I miss EJ already! hahaha

I don't know what it is about DC, Jake and EJ but I love their chemistry and I miss it, if Sky's coverage of the actual GP weekends is better it's going to be so so sad knowing that the banter is going on with Jake, DC and EJ on the other channel :(

That said, I am absolutely loving Sky's coverage so far, aside from the presenters... I like Martin Brundle, Anthony and David Croft, the ladies are easy on the eyes as well, but that presenter on the F1 preview show last night didn't sit right with me, maybe because I'm not used to him and have to see him presenting a few more times before I am able to like and warm to him...

It's just that with Jake, for instance, he won me over the first time he opened his mouth, he's a very likeable bloke.

/manlove out :D

The video screen was brilliant - I think we're going to get a lot more technical analysis with Sky and I am really looking forward to that, especially as I know how much MB loves that side of the sport and will no doubt be leading it in most cases.

Content and coverage over banter I guess!

Can't be worse than Jackie Steward or Niki Lauda?

I will watch those ones tomorrow hopefully :D

I was never a fan of damon but I felt having Nigel on the same show over shadowed what Damon had to say. I like listening to Damon as he's someone I've come to appreciate more since he retired, which is the opposite to the up his own backside brummie :D

) will be the team and track sponsors suddenly realising that they are getting 5,000,000 less sets eyes on their logo's.
the teams dont care because they got there extra million or whatever pitty amount it was.
the sponsors wont miss 5,000,000 viewers as its almost nothing to formula one and the majority of sponsors are well known in england anyway so we arent there market.

I just wish the 'Beige Bint' wasn't involved. I had enough of her during A1GP. Beige hair, beige skin and then beige clothes. Plus either her botox had gone wrong or she'd had a stroke as half her face never moved.

She just annoys me. Although as there's more presenters this time, we shouldn't see her as much.

I agree, Jake is a very good front man. However, I feel the BBC coverage was heading down the Top Gear route of being all about banter and lairy shirts and less about the technical side of F1. From what MB has said in some interviews I get the impression he thinks the same. Sky looks to be a far more professional show, and with the money they are spending, it has to be.

But that said, I very rarely watched both build ups (quali and race) and even if I did I only watched one.

The season review is the same as the FOM produced season review you get on DVD, they always save more camera views, radio feeds etc to put on it.

I will really miss Jake if I watch it on sky, I feel he made it all a bit more accessible for people that don't want to watch in scarbs like depth or which they vastly out number the people like us who crave details.

I think the BBC went just deep enough to give some information without boring the hell out the masses.

I don't really put much stock in what MB is currently saying because if Sky pull the plug and decide it's not worth it, he will be saying how he misses he old team etc and the BBC is home of f1. Just as he was one of the most vocal about how upset he was when the dropped some it in the first place.

I like what I've seen so far of the sky set up, I just wish they got Jake as well.

Jake won't be leaving the BBC any time soon. He's doing the F1, Olympics, Sports Personality of the Year and even been doing some MOTD 2 recently as well.

Personally I think we'll warm to Simon Lazenby, probably won't be as much banter but will be more coverage and access.

I'll still watch the F1 forum on iplayer if they continue that though. :p

Odd. Might be a free weekend? Are the rest of the Sports channels encrypted then F1 isn't? It is after SS4.

From midnight tonight the listings go to "your home of formula one" programmes. So looks like it might be a free weekend :(
