*** The SKY F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

But you're forgetting the important part, he made it exciting and interesting. Something no one has achieved since.

The others are just boring and make mistakes. If they where caught up in the passion I could forgive it. But they just chat boringly.

Oh really....

Murrary: "What's that? There's a BODY on the track!!!"
James: "Um, I think that that is a piece of BODY-WORK, from someone's car."

Murray: There's a fiery glow coming from the back of the Ferrari
James: No Murray, that's his rear safety light

:D

If Jake or anyone makes those kinds of mistakes these days the internet implodes. Again there was nothing wrong with murrays knowledge but people never take into consideration the pressure involved and murray was under less pressure than the men doing it these days.

I think they are doing a hell of a job considering.
still the later part of his career....

Agree. No one else has come close.

Highlights. But don't moan about it, or Skeeter and Duke might release the hounds :p

Nobody messes with Fluffy!

I imagine it will probably be studio-based, but throwing back to the paddock/pitlane reporters and the studio pundits asking questions too.

I really hope not, one of the best features of the Forum was the fact they were around the paddock and getting caught up in all the post race action. It was a good behind the scenes look upon what makes F1 tick. It made the forum feel very unique and personal to the race, sitting in an sterile emotionless studio with fancy graphics just takes all that personality of the show away regardless on who presents the show. I couldn't imagine the current presenters getting caught up in a RedBull celebration, or someone running into a garage to drag out a team boss for discussion.

The pre-show really did not sit well with me unfortunately, its quite clear its going to be very much in the style of the post show football discussions :(

I think I'll watch the races the BBC have live on the BBC and the others on Sky.

Mainly because HD TV is going to beat SkyGo, even if the quality is maxed.

However, if the Sky coverage is a lot better than the beeb I could be swayed.

Everybody in the pre show will be in attendance at every race, so unless there are more people being put on the coverage than already announced, then the shows will always be from the track.

Its still very possible that they build a studio at the track (especially the European ones), but they will definitely be there.

The one thing we are yet to have any evidence on though is 'access'. The BBC had great access to the drivers and the teams in the pit lane due to being the sole British broadcaster. They now have to fight with Sky, and I imagine that a lot of the exclusives will go Sky's way too. Anyone the BBC offer up for grid walks is always going to loose out to Martin 'barge his way to the front' Brundle, and I expect the whole 'walking down the pit lane, oh, I'll just grab this team boss for a chat' antics of EJ and DC will be limited too.

With SSF1 basically being Sky Sports Bernie, I can't see Bernie wanting to introduce random Sheiks and celebrities to whoever the BBC have on the grid over Martin Brundle, for example.

The shows will be from the track on race weekends, they've already confirmed this. They've also posted up photos of their 'studio' and video editing 'pods' arriving in Melbourne.
EJ & DC are still massively respected in F1 so I wouldn't dismiss their ability to get interviews etc so quickly. Simon Lazenby and Georgie Thompson are relatively unknown in contrast, and while they'll probably be on the favouring side of Bernie Eccelstone, that won't necessarily extend them the same ability that EJ has to just dive into a garage off-the-cuff and grab someone to chat to because they happen to be old mates. DC also has close ties with RedBull, Williams and McLaren for example.
I couldn't care less about talking to Sheiks and celebrities on the grid ;)

I think the BBC did a good job. Drop the poetry/arty-farty crap on the pre-race shows and it was (mostly) top notch stuff.

I'm not saying that EJ won't still be able to grab people, I'm just wondering weather the BBC will still be allowed to present from the pit lane in the first place.

But we shall have to wait and see.

Just found out I'm getting paid to specifically watch this race on Sunday morning for the Sport 24 channel that you get on cruise ships and stuff. Broadcast quality HD feed :D

Does anyone know if the world feed has any commentary on or if it is just the video and track sounds.

I wasn't convinced Georgie knew what she was talking about and the novice guy (Fenners?) seemed like an idiot and ripe for fast forwarding but apart from that I think it looks promising so far. We'll find out in a few days hey.

Also couldn't work out why the revolving cars in the background all looked current except for a yellow renault from a couple of seasons ago over MB's shoulder.

The Red Bull had a fin making it 2010 at the latest.

I do agree it was a rather random mix of cars. Its all CG so hopefully they can get some 2012 models in if they use the studio in the future.

Presented by the ever awkward Craig Slater. How this guy got a job as a news reader/presenter I've no idea, sounds like he's struggling to read a script and is completely unsure of what he is saying.

I think he's quite funny, having him climb to the top of the pit building in a suit etc. :)

This might be a daft question, but is it possible to set a reminder and record the programme at the same time? Obviously I can set a reminder and then click record but I know for a fact I will forget to do this.

Not sure you can, one seems to override the other. I can't make it work anyway.

That was one of the few benefits of the V+ boxes, surprised Sky haven't implemented it if so as I imagine it would be a fairly simple software update.
