*** The SKY F1 2012 Coverage Thread ***

Jake was a horrible presenter, no knowledge of the sport whatsoever. The male version of Fearne Cotton.

This tbh.

He pulled out an excellent comment at the end of the Monaco Grand Prix, saying to Sebastian Vettel as he was next to his RB7 .. "Those tyres don't look too bad do they? seeing as they've done almost the whole race"

They were bloody new ones that had been put on when the race was stopped :p ******* eejit.

Isn't that the idea? This Simon doesn't seem to be too clued up.

You have to have a main presenter like that though, It puts people watching who don't know much at ease. If you just have a line up of fully in the know presenters then general public are going to feel some what alienated.

Murray had great knowledge of the sport but made mistakes every single race. People sit there watching these races on tv watching one screen mostly and scoff every time they make a mistake like they can do better.

They are broadcasting to millions, with more and more different feeds to information. Jake won't just be sat down watching the race like you are, he will be being prepped, briefed and looking at multiple sources of information/twitter/emails and so on. It wouldn't be hard for him to miss a pitstop or other vital bit of information. After all he's a presenter not an expert. The amount of information he has to go through is probably 10X what Murray and co had to look through.

I think they do an amazing job considering. I once heard one of his old cbbc mates saying they used to laugh at Jake when he said he was going to present sports. Inbetween filming for childrens tv he would bone up on as many sports as he could. Kudos to him tbh for being that driven and working hard to get where he wanted to be.

He also come across as someone who thoroughly enjoys what he does, which makes him easy to engage with.

I still think the Jake Eddie and DC trio were very cringeworthy at times. If Sky could poach Jake away I would be very happy, but BBC can keep tight jeans and lairy shirt.

I agree, although I would not be surprised to see DC move over as isn't MB still DC's manager? Probably sorting him out and therefore himself a deal for 2013 with sky :D

only towards the end of his career when his mental capacity was starting to fade

His errors where compensated by passion and presence. Something the other commentators have never fulfilled.

Is it Simpsons/family guy, with the football game, American commentator vs a I think a brazilian commentator.

Maybe, but MB has been quite open about how he prefers being co-commentator to lead, so he won't be working too hard to bring DC over as Sky might see him as a replacement to MB rather than a sidekick :)

His (genuine) enthusiasm overtook a few times in his 'youth' as well.

He completely cocked up the order once of the three wise men as they approaching the final turn.

Anybody know whether the Sky team will be doing anything equivalent to the F1 forum post-race or otherwise? Quite enjoyed the unscripted nature, and while the Sky F1 show seems good so far, its quite obviously all preplanned/scripted.

I imagine it will probably be studio-based, but throwing back to the paddock/pitlane reporters and the studio pundits asking questions too.

probably been asked before, but when the BBC is doing its races live, what do you think is going to be the best channel to watch? (considering i dont get HD)

Oh really....

Murrary: "What's that? There's a BODY on the track!!!"
James: "Um, I think that that is a piece of BODY-WORK, from someone's car."

Murray: There's a fiery glow coming from the back of the Ferrari
James: No Murray, that's his rear safety light

:D

If Jake or anyone makes those kinds of mistakes these days the internet implodes. Again there was nothing wrong with murrays knowledge but people never take into consideration the pressure involved and murray was under less pressure than the men doing it these days.

I think they are doing a hell of a job considering.

Sky seems to be the best choice out of the two.

I can't justify the cost of the full sky package If they ever put the f1 channel on top-up-tv I know I'll be watching the Sky broadcast.
